Toddler Girl Realizes She’s No Longer ‘the Baby’ & Tries To Swat Her New Little Brother Away

Although parents may argue about whether they have a favorite child, most of them will tell you there is something special about that first one. They’re the ones who open up your heart to a whole new type of love. They’re the ones who made you a parent.

Even though they may not be able to put it into words, firstborns understand the uniqueness of this bond because they were the ones who felt it. They received your undivided attention. Their needs came first. So imagine the problems that arise when suddenly they have to share.

Late last month, Paige Mackenzie captured the moment her niece sat for a photo shoot with her new baby brother. The adults placed the elder toddler, dressed in a “big sis” sweatshirt on a large chair. Then someone propped up her newborn brother, wearing his “little bro” sweatshirt, across from her. Immediately, the big sis expressed her displeasure with the new arrival by swatting at her baby brother.

The adults quickly corrected her, telling her “No” and “Be nice.” Whether it was the chastisement or the recognition that there is another baby in the house, the big sister burst into tears. Paige included this text over the video: “POV: when you realize you’re not an only child anymore.” In the caption, she took a very optimistic approach, writing: “She’ll get use to him lol.”

The video, which has been viewed more than 8.4 million times, elicited all types of reactions. Some could totally relate.

“I feel her pain!,” one Tik Toker wrote. “I didn’t want siblings either.”

Others had empathy. “Aww she’s just a baby herself!! She needs a big cuddle!!” someone else pointed out.

And then there were those who projected a bright future. “And soon they’ll be best friends!” one person shared.

That last commenter may have hit the nail on the head. Just two days ago, Paige shared another video of her niece kissing her baby brother and then clapping for herself.

This time, the text Paige included with the video read: “She just needed time to warm up to her baby brother.” In the caption she responded to a commenter, sharing that her niece now loves her nephew. We love to see this.
