Anyone With a Toddler Home 24/7, Consider ‘Tumble Blocks’ an Investment in Your Sanity

In the beginning of the pandemic I found myself mindlessly scrolling through Amazon regularly. The sudden shift from being a working mom whose kid went to day care to being a working mom with a child home 24/7 had me grasping at straws pretty quickly. Keeping him occupied and engaged was a full-time task, and I was running out of distractions.

That's when something I never would have allowed in my house caught my eye.

Admittedly, I was skeptical about purchasing this potential for disaster.

Although sure, these tumble blocks are nice and squishy, my floor is … not. I immediately envisioned the 900 ways my son would crack open his head if I bought this and I shuddered. So when it came up in my "what can keep my toddler busy" search, I quickly dismissed it.

As luck would have it (or really, social algorithms would have it) I saw a fellow mom post on Instagram about buying tumble blocks for her kids ...

In her "story" she showed her little boy jumping and squishing and giggling over this simple toy. She also captioned it with gushing comments, saying how this occupied her kiddo for stretches of time throughout the day.

Her big takeaways were:

Did it take up a lot of room? Yes.

Do you have to set it up in a safe space? Absolutely.

Was it worth the investment? Without a doubt.

I decided to bite the bullet and order it, and let me tell you fellow parent, I wish I had done it a lot sooner.

When I tell you my son loves these things, I mean he looooooves them.

Every single day since I bought them, I kid you not, he has played with them in some capacity.

At first he did the routine climbing and tumbling off them. Then it moved to turning the blocks into a bridge he had to cross. Then, when stacked properly, they became a rocket ship. Other times they've been used as the bones for a blanket fort or even a comfy cushion to relax on.

The best part about them, selfishly, is that I don't have to participate every time he plays with them.

I know that sounds terrible, but hear me out. The fact that this kid can fall all over them relatively safely and not need me right next to him has eased this working mama's load ever so slightly.

It's been especially clutch when it was a rainy day or far too hot to be outside as a great way to run and tumble out some extra energy.

Frankly, this was worth every penny I spent.

I've bought a lot of stuff throughout these isolation months in an effort to quell my mom guilt as well as reward my son for being a trooper, and by far this is the most worthwhile purchase I have made. These tumble blocks have withstood six months of constant roughhousing, building, and snuggling, and I couldn't recommend them more.
