Talk about a whirlwind birth story. Shockingly, a woman gave birth in the departures area at Miami International Airport. Delivering a baby in a public place is always a terrifying experience given how quickly a birth can go wrong. But sometimes, there’s nothing that can be done.
The woman successfully had an airport birth, thanks to the quick moving first responders who rushed to her aid to ensure that she and her baby were able to survive the experience.

Her trip will likely have to wait.
WSVN reported that the woman was sitting in the pre-security ticketing area of Miami International Airport when her water broke around Checkpoint 1. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to the medical call about 5 p.m. November 12. There was no time to move her, so they had to deliver her baby in the seating lounge.
There is audio of the experience.
WSVN obtained audio of the 911 dispatch in the moments after the woman went into labor.
“Responding to Door 3, pregnant female. Possible miscarriage outside of Door 3 departures,” the 911 dispatcher says. “Door 3 departures, Rescue 40.”

Video also was captured of the harrowing situation.
Cellphone video shared with multiple news outlets shows the woman on the ground with her baby boy peeking out from a blanket. His mom cradles him while she is being tended to by first responders.
“It’s alive! It’s alive?” an official says to the 911 operator while another person responds, saying “Yeah!”
“OK. Hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on, hold on,” the official says. “We got a boy!” another voice can be heard saying.
There's no word on their conditions since leaving the airport.
After the birth, the 911 dispatchers worked quickly to get mom and baby to the nearest hospital. An airport employee told WSVN that they believe the woman was in between flights when her water broke. As of now, no additional information on the woman and her son’s condition has been released.
This has happened before.
This isn’t the first time a woman has given birth at this particular airport, according to the Miami Herald. In 2021, a woman went into labor while at Miami International Airport, giving birth in the bathroom. She delivered a baby girl that she named Mia.
