Someone might want to tell this wife on TikTok that the “roommate phase” of a marriage does not mean your husband is supposed to cringe away from you if you try and kiss him. Unfortunately, that’s what happens in a video that one user posted, and although “Mindy” laughs in the video, to some, it seems like her husband is sending a clear message.
Spoiler alert: The message is one of disinterest in his wife. To be fair, the roommate phase is very real in marriages. Per Marriage.com, the roommate phase of a marriage happens when a couple is still bonded, but they are so overwhelmed by responsibilities and other things that romance and physical connection fall by the wayside. In Mindy’s video, you can see evidence of her self-described roommate phase, but, uh, sis, your husband seems even more checked out than he should be at this point.

The roommate phase happens in many marriages. For some couples, they might even go through it more than once, depending on their phase in life and how busy or stressful things are. Of course, the important thing is to know how to get out of it for the sake of other parts of your marriage. I’m not here to judge anyone for the dynamic in their marriage. But other TikTok users were quick to point out what they saw as issues in Mindy’s TikTok.
One person wrote, “If my husband ever said ‘ew’ when I tried to kiss him, I would *never* kiss him again” under the video. OK, that’s fair. Then again, it’s entirely possible that Mindy and her husband are the type of couple who joke about things like that without being serious. I hope.
“Even for the roommate phase this isn’t normal,” someone else commented. “Your husband should still love you enough to give you a kiss.”
Without knowing literally anything else about the couple, it might be concerning to see a husband seemingly cringe away from his wife’s kiss. But maybe the roommate phase is something Mindy and her husband are dealing with in their own way. Of course, the internet is an unforgiving place. Literally no one wanted Mindy to think her marriage is just fine in the comments under her TikTok.

Another added, “That man is in love…with someone else.”
She posted follow-up videos to show another side of her husband.

Apparently not one to take the internet trolls’ comments without a fight, Mindy posted a follow-up video with a montage of her husband either goofing around or spending time with their kids. It’s a huge contrast to her original video about being in the roommate phase. And honestly, it’s proof that relationships and marriages sometimes only make sense to those in the relationship.
