A mom is “forever grateful” for a young woman who stepped in to help her out while she was getting her nails done and starting to feel overwhelmed. Kayla Jo Singleterry is a single mom of two. On her birthday, she went to get her nails done with her baby in tow. A 20-year-old woman noticed that the mom looked stressed while she was holding her crying baby at the nail salon, so she offered to help.
The simple act of kindness might seem small, but it meant so much to the overwhelmed mom.

The mom said her trip to the nail salon was one of the first things she’s done for herself since welcoming her baby.
Kayla recorded a video of the 20-year-old woman, Mackenzie Scott, holding her baby at the nail salon and later shared it on TikTok. On the platform, she explained why the kind gesture meant so much to her. “This sweet girl noticed I was overwhelmed at the nail salon and offered to hold baby girl so I could get my nails done,” Kayla wrote over the video. “You may never know how much this meant to me.”
When Mackenzie offered to help the single mom, she didn’t realize it was Kayla’s birthday, nor did she know it was “one of the first things” the mom has done for herself since welcoming her daughter. “I’m forever grateful for you,” Kayla wrote on TikTok. “The world needs more of you!”

While at the nail salon for her birthday, the single mom felt ‘so frustrated.’
During an exclusive interview with People, Kayla explained why she was feeling so overwhelmed at the nail salon. She already had dip powder on her nails when her daughter started “bawling” and “fussing.” “I had dip powder on my nails and was trying to hold [my baby] Hendricks, but I was getting it all over her sweatshirt,” the mom told the publication. During this stressful moment, the mom was also on “the verge of tears” herself and just wanted to leave the salon.
Then, Mackenzie stepped in and offered to hold the baby. She held the 6-month-old until Kayla’s nails were done.
Still feeling stressed, Kayla hurried out of the nail salon.

Speaking to People, Kayla described feeling like she was “ready to get out of there.” She thanked Mackenzie for her help, albeit “very quickly.” Then, she rushed to her car and left.
“I felt like I was ruining everybody’s day,” she told People. However, she later felt bad for not telling Mackenzie just how much she appreciated her help. She found Mackenzie on social media and asked if she could share the video on TikTok. On TikTok, Kayla described Mackenzie as “a rare gem.”
Mackenzie didn’t think the simple gesture would go viral, she told People. Now that it has, she hopes it “inspires others to spread kindness.”
‘This is the village everyone talks about,’ Kayla wrote in an update.
@miss.kaylajo This is the village everyone talks about ✨👯♀️ We’re beyond grateful for all the love and support from you all! Our hope is that this one act of kindness inspires others to do the same. After meeting Mackenzie at the nail salon, Kayla feels like she’s found her “village.” She told People that Mackenzie and her mom asked to take her out to celebrate her birthday. On TikTok, she shared another video, which showed Mackenzie, Kayla, and Hendricks spending the day together.

Speaking to People, she added that people always say “it takes a village.” Prior to meeting Mackenzie and her mom, Kayla was “praying for this village that people talk about or just to have her have some other support in her life.” Now, she feels like she’s found exactly that.
