The wonderful world of nail art continues to get weirder with each passing day. Yes, I'm talking about Nail Sunny again — the Russian nail salon behind most of the bizarre nail trends we've witnessed in the past year. Their recent manicure is causing more controversy than curiosity, however.
The latest look in Nail Sunny's beauty arsenal is an ant manicure. It's exactly what it sounds like and it's totally disturbing — in more ways than one.
Friday, the Moscow-based salon posted a video to Instagram of living ants being sealed in a set of clear nails.
You can clearly see them crawling around in the tiny nail space.
The nail artist first applied a normal set of fake nails, then added a plastic layer that's curved on top and flat on bottom. There's a slight opening, which they used to insert the ants with tweezers.
Then, they sealed the ants in with an end piece to create individual finger terrariums.
And while their manicures usually cause a commotion, this particular artistic endeavor had social media users pretty pissed.
Although they claimed "no animals were harmed during the making of this video," people said it was a cruel stunt.
Even PETA came after them. That's when you know it's bad.
Nail Sunny saw the backlash and defended the stunt by posting a second video.
The caption read: "KeeP calm , We left them to breathe????????????."
But alas, the damage had already been done.
Some people are even suffering ant-inspired nightmares.
Others posed some very important questions.
WE NEED ANSWERS, Nail Sunny.
I can see it now: models rocking ant manicures during New York Fashion Week.
After all, it wouldn't be the first time we've seen bizarre nail art on the runway.
It's never okay to use living creatures for superficial beauty purposes, despite how many views you get on a video.
Right now the original video has 927,626 views, but who's counting?
Anyway, these ant nails are giving me a new philosophical outlook on life.
Which one are you today?
