Robert De Niro & Family Mourn Grandson After His Unexpected Death

Drena De Niro is sharing more of her feelings after the death of her son Leandro De Niro Rodriguez. In a new Instagram post, she thanked people for their support after sharing the news that her 19-year-old son was found dead on Sunday, July 2. She also shared an emotional few words about what he meant to her.

She wrote, 'None of this is right or fair.'

"My heart hurts in a way I never knew possible while still breathing and barely functioning. Leo my darling I love you today like the first day I held you in my arms," she wrote in the photo’s caption.

She also added that "the same man that picked us up from the hospital when you were born drove us to the funeral home where I touched and held you for the last time."

"You were kindness acceptance and love and I can’t believe any of this is real YOU made everything bearable and every burden lighter," she wrote.

She shared more of what Leo meant to her.

Further down in the post she wrote, "You didn't deserve to die like this but I can only believe that God needed a strong powerful angel in their army. I'm holding you every second of every moment I'm my heart and memories until I'm with you again."

She also tagged Leo’s father, artist Carlos Mare.

"I love I love you with every beat of my crying heart," she wrote alongside broken heart emojis, a crying emoji and doves.

There are still so many questions about Leo's death.

According to Insider, the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner hasn't yet determined his cause of death.

Insider said that a spokesperson for the New York City Police Department told them that "officers found a male unconscious and unresponsive when responding to a 911 call at 55 Wall Street just before 2:30 p.m. on Sunday."

The body was identified as Leandro and pronounced dead on the scene, NYPD confirmed.

His body was found near a mystery substance.

Leandro was found at home in the Cipriani Wall Street building, which has luxury apartments, hotel rooms, and an exclusive social club.

Robert De Niro’s oldest son, Raphael De Niro, who is Leandro’s uncle, is a real estate broker who used to sell apartments in the building.

His mom is looking back on happier times.

In another Instagram post, Drena posted pictures of her and a younger Leandro on the beach.

"Where it’s always Summertime," she captioned the photos, adding praying hands, hearts and a wave emoji.

Robert released a statement after his grandson’s death via People saying he was "deeply distressed" and asking for privacy as the family grieves.
