Taylor Swift Donates $1 Million To Help Tennessee Tornado Victims

After calling Nashville, Tennessee, home for most of her life, this singer is pitching in to help her home state rebuild. Taylor Swift has donated $1 million to the Tennessee Emergency Response Fund at the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee to help the victims of the 13 tornadoes that ravaged the state over the weekend.

The devastating storms affected multiple counties throughout the state, and at least six people are dead, including two children. Many people have been displaced and many have lost their homes and livelihoods, so the relief fund will be key in assisting as many residents as possible.

Hal Cato, CEO of the community foundation, confirmed Taylor's contribution with USA Today. The organization runs a fund supporting nonprofits that provide vital services at the different points of a natural disaster: immediate relief, short-term recovery, and long-term recovery.

Hal explained to the outlet that Taylor’s donation will "support the immediate and long-term recovery needs: in Sumner County and the areas around it that were most affected by the tornadoes."

The tornadoes had devastating effects.

CNN reported that more than 50 people were injured, multiple buildings were destroyed, and residents have been dealing with widespread power outages due to the storms. When a tornado touched down in Clarksville, it reached peak winds of 150 mph, showing just how destructive weather like this can be.

The devastation will take time to fix.

Three of the people who died in the storm lived in Madison, Tennessee, which is north of Nashville. A tornado hit Madison and nearby Hendersonville, the town where Taylor attended high school, with peak winds hitting 125 mph.

Montgomery County officials reported 62 patients treated at medical facilities.

In March 2020, after tornadoes created devastation in Tennessee in a similar fashion, Taylor donated $1 million to the Middle Tennessee Emergency Response Fund.

"Nashville is my home and the fact that so many people have lost their homes and so much more in Middle Tennessee is devastating to me," she said at the time, via People.

Taylor also extends her generosity to other causes.

Taylor is no stranger to philanthropy, which she's proven throughout the first leg of her Eras Tour. She's made $100,000 donations to food banks in each city she stops in, making a difference along the way.

She seems like a pretty generous boss, too. Taylor made headlines earlier this year when she gave $55 million in bonuses to her truck drivers, dancers, catering staff, and sound crew who worked with her on the tour.
