Lip Reader Reveals Kate Middleton’s One-Word Command to Prince Louis at Trooping the Colour

Given that he’s only 7 years old, Prince Louis sometimes has to be reminded of proper royal etiquette during public appearances. After royal events, clips of Prince Louis often go viral because of his energetic personality and the fact that he’s just being a kid. The 2025 Trooping the Colour festivities were no exception. This time, a clip of his mother, Kate Middleton, correcting his behavior also went viral — and a lip reader has revealed what she said.

The interaction was quite wholesome.

Toward the end of the event, Kate Middleton was likely faced with something most parents have dealt with at some point: a tired and distracted child. Lip reader Jeremy Freeman told the Mirror that at the end of the Trooping the Colour festivities, Louis was (understandably) “looking restless.”

The Princess of Wales seemed to know exactly what to do, and was able to get her son’s attention without making a scene. According to Freeman, Kate simply said, “National anthem. Louis, stand.” The straightforward and firm instructions were enough to redirect Louis’ attention back to the festivities and join his family for the national anthem.

At another point, Prince George also stepped in.

Though Kate stepped in for the national anthem, Prince George and Princess Charlotte do a great job of guiding their younger brother during public appearances. At Trooping the Colour, a moment in which Prince George, 11, corrected his younger brother’s behavior has also gone viral.

A clip shared on TikTok shows Louis waving from the palace balcony. Because he noticed the crowd cheering when he waved, he kept doing it and appeared to be having a great time. But at one point, Prince George intervened and told his younger brother to cut it out.

Prince Louis has starred in numerous viral Trooping the Colour clips over the years.

In 2023, a moment in which Princess Charlotte leaned down at the same time as Prince Louis went viral. They ended up bumping heads and though Charlotte looked a bit upset and hurt at first, she quickly decided to move on and pretend like it never happened. While royal fans felt sorry for Charlotte, they also praised her for being so poised and grownup.

Much like this year’s event, the 2023 Trooping the Colour reminded fans that, in spite of their royal titles, the royal family is still, in many ways, a normal family — and as one fan wrote on TikTok, “Kids will be kids.”
