People Say I’m ‘Petty’ for Cheating on My Wife After She Cheated on Me – I Say It’s Pretty Much Fair

Sometimes, despite being in a long-term relationship, couples drift apart. This can also happen in a marriage whether we like it or not. Sometimes, people stay together because it’s easier than divorce, but it’s definitely not happy or healthy. A man shared his story on Reddit’s AITA relationships sub, looking for insight. He and his wife married 12 years ago, but the spark went out long ago.

They don’t have kids but do share finances, and the original poster figured that was reason enough not to divorce her. But then he found out she was cheating, and things took a turn.

In a since-deleted post, OP explained that he found out his wife was cheating with a much younger man. So, he decided to cheat, too. He hooked up with a male friend behind his wife’s back. His wife doesn’t know he’s bisexual, and OP feels no real guilt about cheating because she did it first.

He talked to his sister, who said he was “petty,” but OP thinks it’s “pretty much fair.” Who’s right?

Redditors think OP and his wife need to end their relationship. No one is happy or doing the other any favors.

“Wouldn’t all this be easier if you just divorced your wife? You don’t want her. You’re not sleeping together. She cheated on you,” one Redditor advised. “Why is she entitled to your financial support in any way, shape, or form? You shouldn’t be focused on finding a boyfriend. You should be focused on finding a lawyer. ESH.”

Most people agreed and felt like OP and his wife were equal in the jerk department.

“Anyone who cheats is an a–hole. That makes both you and your wife a–holes,” someone wrote.

“Cmon,” another person agreed. “Didn’t your grandma ever tell you ‘2 wrongs don’t make a right?'”

One person just wants OP and his wife to both be happy and encouraged him to get it over with and end the unhappy relationship.

“Please, break up. So many people try and figure it out and drag it on for another few years – save yourself the grief and start ending it now,” the commenter suggested.
