Todd Chrisley Admits That He ‘Refused’ To Work in Prison

Todd and Julie Chrisley have been sharing more and more details about the time they spent behind bars on their podcast Chrisley Confessions 2.0 since they were released from prison in May. On this week’s new episode, which was released on Wednesday, the couple talked about their jobs while serving out their sentences … or, in Todd’s case, the lack thereof.

While chatting with guest (and fellow reality star) Kandi Burruss on the podcast, Todd admitted that he didn’t work while doing time. In fact, he said he “refused” to hold a job in prison, since he “went there to do time, not chores.”

That’s not totally true, though. During at least part of his time at Federal Prison Camp Pensacola, he served as the Assistant to the Chaplain, though he was dismissed from the position in October 2024 for “associating with inmates” from the Residential Drug Abuse Program at the facility.

Describing his prison as “a busted inner-city school camp,” Todd also noted that he “ran my block.”

Julie had a very different experience, though. “I adhered to the rules. Keep in mind, I was in a place where there was no air conditioning,” she said.

She also held a job, especially since it meant that she could have a little spending money that helped make her sentence a bit more pleasant. Joking that, unlike Todd, she did “hard time” in prison, she confirmed that she worked in the commissary so she could afford the beauty and self care products she wanted to buy.

“I wanted to make sure I could order my shampoo and body wash and makeup,” she said. “I mean, it wasn’t MAC, but we could get the CoverGirl, the Maybelline, the Wet N’ Wild. So, we went back to the Wet N’ Wild.”

Despite sticking to a beauty routine as closely as she could, Julie was unable to continue bleaching her hair, so her blonde locks went dark and stayed that way until her release.

In the trailer for the family’s upcoming reality series, The Chrisleys: Back to Reality, Todd joked about his wife’s hair when they were reunited after their presidential pardon earlier this year.

“I never thought I’d be with a dark-headed woman, but I’m willing to try it tonight,” he said.
