An infant was killed and a young child is in serious condition after they were struck by a car in a mall parking lot in Australia. Details about what happened are still emerging, but it appears the children were outside a car. Another car struck the children, pinning them between two vehicles. Those who saw the incident described many first responders on the scene. The accident’s cause is being determined.
At roughly 3:30 p.m. September 15, 2025, emergency services were called to the parking lot of Minto Mall in southwest Sydney, the New South Wales Police Force shared in a statement. Responding to reports of a pedestrian being hit by a car, officers found a 5-month-old infant and a 5-year-old child had been hit, and both were in serious condition.
“Police commenced CPR on the infant, before she was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics; however, she died at the scene,” the statement read.
The 5-year-old also was treated by paramedics before being taken to The Children’s Hospital in serious but stable condition.
A woman allegedly lost control of her car, striking the stroller of the infant killed with the back of the car, according to 7 News Australia. The two children were crushed between an SUV and another car.
Footage shared by the news outlet shows the car straddling two parking spots and very close to another vehicle. Debris litters the ground around the cars, and a shopping cart sits nearby.
The statement released by police noted the 35-year-old woman driving was “uninjured.”
“All I saw was the paramedics, I think four ambulances, a heap of police cars attending to the scene,” a woman who was in the area at the time of the accident, told Australia’s ABC News.
Authorities are still investigating the accident.
