Fans who have tuned into The Chrisleys: Back to Reality on Lifetime already know that the family has been concerned about Todd and Julie Chrisley‘s son Chase and his drinking this season — especially his sister, Savannah. But on this week’s season finale, Chase revealed that he checked into rehab, and now, he’s speaking out about what sobriety has meant to him.
Chase said rehab was necessary to handle “trauma” he was dealing with.
“I just thought that I could bury it, bury it, bury it,” he said, adding that he needs to “find myself.”
On the show, Chase can be seen boarding a plane to go to a treatment center. His decision comes after Savannah mentioned that she had already reached out and set up a rehab plan for him months earlier, but he’d refused to go.
Todd was there to support him.
Chase’s dad was beside him on the plane, sharing his support for Chase.
“My life’s story is not going to be that I went to prison for 28 months. Your life story does not have to be that I had an alcohol and substance abuse problem,” Todd told him. “That’s not your life’s story. That’s a part. That’s a chapter.”
He later said that his parents’ prison sentence “humbled” him.
In an interview with People that was published on Thursday, Chase opened up about how much his life has changed after Todd and Julie served time in prison.
“My parents going away, even though it was a terrible situation, I had to learn a lot of lessons I probably wouldn’t have learned until way later on in life,” he said. “It definitely humbled me and showed me what the important things in life are and what to really be appreciative of.”
He said he’s done with alcohol for good.
After completing treatment, it sounds like Chase is planning to stay sober from now on.
“Obviously, I’ve had my difficulty [and] my struggle with alcohol,” he told the outlet. “It makes the highs, highs and it makes the lows, lower. So I think that going through what we went through with my family, and then my personal journey, and my struggles, it’s time for me just to put alcohol down. We just don’t agree with each other.”
