‘Sister Wives’ Star Kody Brown Makes Admittedly ‘Sexist’ Declaration on ‘Special Forces’

On Thursday, Sister Wives star Kody Brown made his debut on Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test, the Fox reality series that pits celebrities against each other in competitions similar to U.S. military training. On the show, Kody shared what made him want to take this challenge on, even admitting that his reasoning could be seen as “sexist.” But knowing what Kody has shared on his TLC series before, this may not come as much of a surprise to fans!

On the show’s season premiere, Kody shared that his time on the show is all about proving how “manly” he can be, and he seems to know that some viewers might judge him for that.

“I’m gonna say this at the risk of sounding sexist, but I think men want to be respected and women want to be loved. I don’t care if you love me. I care if you respect me,” he said.

To Kody, being a good man means doing “the hard things.” He added, “Every once in a while, you need just proof of who you are.”

As People reported, one of the episode’s challenges had Kody and his costars lugging 800 pounds of supplies uphill, and that sparked him to share that part of the reason he wanted to join the show is because he wanted to have the opportunity to show a different side of himself to his children watching at home — even now that he’s 56 years old.

“I want my children to see that I can do the impossible still,” he said. “Keep the old man out.”

In an interview with People that was published this week, Kody revealed that his (only remaining) wife Robyn wasn’t into the idea of him going on Special Forces at first, but she quickly realized how determined he was.

“I think when she saw, when I showed her or told her what it would be similar to or what I thought it would be like, she was like, ‘Oh, this is one of those things that you are going to do and I’m not going to be able to stop you,’” he told the outlet.

Ultimately, he felt like the show was something he had to do.

“I wanted to sort of put a pivot in my life, change the directions I was going,” he admitted. “It wasn’t the pivot that I wanted, but it was the pivot I needed, and I had an exceptional experience that was almost spiritual in a way.”

New episodes of Special Forces air Thursdays on Fox.
