Sussex Christmas Photo Has Critics Acting Like the Kids Belong to the Public

It seems like no matter what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle do, they can’t keep everyone happy — especially when it comes to how private they choose (or don’t choose) to keep their kids, 6-year-old Archie and 4-year-old Lilibet.

And now that the Sussexes have shared the photo they used for their Christmas card this year (kiddos included) they’re receiving all kinds of backlash for continuing to keep the little ones’ faces private.

The photo includes all four members of their family.

Meghan shared the photo on Instagram on Friday. In the picture, Meghan is leaning down, talking to Lili with their foreheads pressed together, while Harry and Archie are embracing. As usual, both kids’ faces are obscured so that they can’t be fully seen.

“Happy Holidays! From our family to yours,” she wrote in her caption.

Not everyone is loving the fact that we can’t see Archie and Lili’s faces.

In a Reddit post where royal watchers are discussing the new photo, multiple people pointed out that, yet again, some critics aren’t happy that Meghan and Harry’s kids aren’t showing their faces again.

“Dontcha know that Harry’s children are the property of the British public and should be photographed with their faces exposed regularly as a result? (eyeroll). It REALLY drives some folks bananas that we don’t get to see their faces,” one commenter wrote. “I hope H&M keep up this policy as long as they can.”

That’s not the only fault that critics are finding with the new photo. On X, they’re not faring much better — a post shared by Royal News Network called it “quite cold,” adding, “I don’t get family warmth but separation, and reiterates that Lili is obviously Meghan’s favorite. You could easily crop Harry and Archie out of this picture. It’s odd.”

Some people are coming to their defense, though.

Harry and Meghan are probably used to catching a lot of flack online for just about everything they do at this point, but refreshingly, many commenters on the Reddit post simply want to cheer them on for continuing to give their children as much privacy as possible as they grow.

“I’m so relieved that Meghan and Harry have yet again given these two precious little kids anonymity and privacy by not showing their faces,” one person wrote. “It’s what Harry has said he wanted very much for his own childhood and it must mean the world to both of them that they can give this to their children. I hope it’s a very long time until we see their faces. I’m good with waiting as long as Meghan and Harry need because it keeps those little people safer.”

Faces or no faces, it’s a gorgeous family photo.
