Jill Biden’s Ex-Husband Has Been Charged With Murder After ‘Domestic Dispute’ With Wife of Over 30 Years

We all know Jill Biden as the wife of former President Joe Biden. For years, we’ve seen her by his side and may have been inspired by the love they’ve displayed for each other in their decades-long marriage. But much like Biden had a life before Jill, she had one before him. Her ex-husband, Bill Stevenson, whom she has been divorced from for nearly 50 years, has recently made headlines. His current wife was found unresponsive after the two had some sort of domestic disturbance.

After some concerning behavior and a months-long police investigation, Stevenson has now been arrested for murder. On the night of December 28, 2025, officers from the New Castle County Division of Police responded to a report of a domestic disturbance at a home in Wilmington, Delaware, a news release shared.

When they got inside, officers found 64-year-old Linda Stevenson unresponsive in the living room of the home she shared with Bill Stevenson. Despite trying life-saving measures, she was later declared dead.

On February 2, 2026, a grand jury indicted Bill Stevenson on first-degree murder charges “following an extensive weeks-long investigation,” New Castle County Police shared in a news release.

Once they were able to get the indictment, Bill Stevenson was arrested at his home and taken into police custody “without incident.” He was arraigned and taken to the Howard Young Correctional Institution when he failed to post the $500,000 cash bond.

Linda Stevenson was described as “deeply family-oriented and treasured time spent making memories, especially on family vacations with her daughter and granddaughter,” in her obituary.

“Within the last five years, she proudly founded BMB Bookkeeping, a business she built with determination, integrity, and heart. She loved her work and truly cared for her clients, many of whom became friends,” her family wrote. “Linda will be remembered as tenacious, kind-hearted, and fiercely loyal. Her strength, resilience, and unwavering love for her family and friends will never be forgotten, and her absence will be felt deeply by all who knew her.”

Her obituary makes no mention of her husband. Someone noticed this fact and reached out on his business Facebook page, People reported.

“Bill, your wife’s obituary is in the paper and you are not listed anywhere as her husband or your name is not listed,” the woman wrote on January 14. “Is there a reason for this or a misprint?” The post was deleted, the magazine reported.

In 2020, Bill Stevenson told Inside Edition that he and Linda had been married for about 34 years, which means they married in the late 1980s, about a decade after he and Jill Biden divorced.

“I’m not bitter because, if it wasn’t for my divorce, I would never have met my wife Linda and she’s the greatest thing in my life,” he told the Daily Mail that same year.

Stevenson and Jill Biden met in 1969 and married the following year when she was only 18 years old. They divorced five years later.

“We were young, and it didn’t take long before we grew in different directions,” she wrote in her 2019 memoir, Where the Light Enters, The Daily Mail reported. “Before long, I began to see that the breaks were beyond repair. I wouldn’t settle for a counterfeit love. Like a broken spell, the truth of the reality struck me suddenly: I was going to get divorced.”

Linda Stevenson’s murder is still under investigation.
