There is no question that we are living in a very politically polarizing time in the United States. President Donald Trump uses his position as president and his social media accounts to spread hate speech and anger, and instead of uniting Americans, it’s pulling us further apart. On April 25, 2026, an alleged assassin reportedly tried to kill Trump during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. This was the second attempt on his life in less than two years. Whether you like him or not, killing someone is wrong.
But apparently not everyone agrees. Wisconsin high school teacher Patrick Meyer posted a pretty vile message on X following the shooting that landed him on leave and angered a lot of people.
Meyer’s message was pretty inflammatory.
You know what to do, make this 'school teacher' famous. @looper1973 pic.twitter.com/54El4t73rX

Meyer works as a social studies teacher at Kaukauna High School in the Kaukauna Area School District. According to Fox 11, he posted a now-deleted message on X regarding the shooting and his apparent disappointment that Trump survived.
“I am not impressed with recent presidential assassins. It’s f—–g embarrassing! Booth, Guiteau, Czolgosz, Oswald must all be spinning in their graves! MAGAA (make Americans great assassins again)! Sad!” Meyer wrote.
Sir, just no. You can think it, but don’t post it on social media.
The message enraged a lot of people.
Patrick Meyer is a teacher at Kaukauna High School with 20 years in the district.

He posted on X from an account called @looper1973, saying he wasn’t impressed with recent presidential assassinations, listed historical ones like Booth, Guiteau, Czolgosz and Oswald.

Meyer is most definitely entitled to his own opinion, but putting it out there on a public forum was not a smart move as a teacher. He’s essentially saying he wishes the shooters had killed Trump, and he appears to be condoning gun violence. Whether that was his intention or not, that’s how it read, and many people became upset. It eventually reached the school district, which put him on paid leave.
Kaukauna Area School District responded on social media.
The district addressed Meyer’s Facebook post, distancing itself from his opinions:
The Kaukauna Area School District has been made aware of a situation involving an employee’s social media post. The District has placed the employee on administrative leave and is taking additional action to review the matter in accordance with its policies and procedures.
The Kaukauna Area School District is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment for all students, families, and staff, and unequivocally rejects any conduct, expression, or behavior that may encourage, condone, or promote violence in any form.
The content of the employee’s social media post was not related to the Kaukauna Area School District, and there has been no evidence of a risk to the safety of our students and schools.
Meyer’s post has sparked strong reactions from parents.
Many commented on the district’s Facebook post. Some think Meyer was totally out of line.
“He is a teacher and is likely teaching this behavior to his students. So it does affect the school,” someone commented.
“This isn’t fun I am sure from a school perspective. At the same being held accountable is the right thing,” another person agreed.
Others think Meyer might have been mocking Trump.
“It was clearly a satirical post written in Trump’s style, not a celebration of anything. Almost all of the comments here are outraged at a context that did not happen- he didn’t say anything to students, he wasn’t encouraging or celebrating violence,” one commenter pointed out.
Some think Trump set the tone for this kind of post a long time ago.
“Why expect more from our teachers than from our own president? Our own elective officials do not hold up to these standards why does anyone else have too? This was posted outside of school,” a comment added. “Freedom of speech.”
Here’s the thing: Trump’s a bully who says whatever he wants online but isn’t held accountable for anything. This teacher shared a pretty vile opinion and might lose his job. Should they be held to the same standards? Absolutely. Sadly, that’s not how the world works.
Meyer is a teacher and a dad who can think whatever he wants. But when you’re in a position of molding young minds in a classroom, condoning and encouraging assassination is just plain dumb. We teach our kids to think before they speak, and that doesn’t end just because you’re an adult.
