Ohio Dad Was ‘Acting Crazy’ Before He Allegedly Strangled Daughter During Fight About Her Messy Bedroom

A dad in Ohio faces felony charges, accused of strangling his adult daughter. Jeffrey Canzonetta allegedly attacked his daughter during a heated argument that seemed to stem from the state of her room. As someone who lived with my parents in my early 20s and kept a messy room, I can say there are definitely more productive ways of having a conversation about such things. The argument between the father and daughter continued to escalate, to the point where Canzonetta’s wife thought she needed to get involved. Apparently, she was also not spared from his explosive temper.

His attack seemingly came out of nowhere.

Officers from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence call at a Vienna Township home around 1:30 p.m. May 9, 2026, according to an incident report obtained by People.

When deputies arrived, the 22-year-old victim told them her father, 56-year-old Jeffrey Canzonetta, was “acting crazy” and pushed her and her mother in the hallway, the incident report read, per WFMJ.

The incident began when Canzonetta went into his daughter’s bedroom to say hello, the incident report stated. While he was there, he began making comments about how messy her room was and other “negative statements.” Despite his daughter asking him to leave her room “numerous times,” Canzonetta kept getting closer to her and coming further into her room, WFMJ reported.

The arguing allegedly woke up his wife, Maria. She said she found her husband and daughter in the hallway, screaming at each other and pushing, per People. Maria told police officers that she tried to intervene, but when she did, her husband got in her face and pushed her to the ground.

After his daughter called 911, Canzonetta allegedly wrapped his hands around her neck.

Trumbull County Jail

According to the incident report, his daughter “stated that her father pushed her against the wall and put his hand around her throat and squeezed tightly and she couldn’t breathe.”

After allegedly choking his daughter, Canzonetta left for work, the report stated. That afternoon, he was arrested at his job without incident and taken to the county jail, WFMJ reported. According to records from the Trumbull County Sheriff’s Office, Canzonetta was charged with felony strangulation and two misdemeanor counts of domestic violence.

Public records from the Girard Municipal Court show that Canzonetta made an initial appearance in court on May 11 via video. He was given a $10,000 bail, though WFMJ reported the bail was set at $7,500.

His preliminary hearing was originally set for May 14 but has been rescheduled for July 22, 2026.

There were some reactions from strangers.

Someone shared the article from People in the Ohio sub-Reddit, and commenters didn’t hesitate to call out Canzonetta’s bad behavior.

“Violent bully throws life into dumpster. Hope she can get away from him ASAP,” one person wrote.

Someone else replied directly writing, “It’s 2026. It’s rewarding to be an a–hole now.”

“With people like this, if it’s not one thing, then it’s going to be another. It was just a matter of time before this guy acted out violently like this,” another person shared.
