Donald Trump may not have found the time to attend his own son’s wedding when Donald Trump Jr. wed Bettina Anderson over the weekend, but he still manages to call his grandchildren every now and then — or at least one of them. In her new YouTube vlog, his granddaughter Kai Trump shared a “very cute” moment she shared with her grandpa, but not everyone is willing to give the president points for this.
Kai’s famous grandpa called her while she was getting ready for her high school graduation.
In the video that Kai shared on Friday, she can be seen sitting in a chair while she gets her hair done ahead of the ceremony. At that moment, she gets a call, saying, “my grandpa’s calling me.”
After they hang up, Kai says, “So cute. Isn’t it so cute that he just calls me whenever? He’s literally just, like, a grandpa, I swear. He literally is on the way back from China and he’s calling me. I know, very very cute.”
Yes, actually, he is literally a grandpa… is it really that surprising that he’d call his granddaughter the day of her graduation? It’s sweet, yes, and he has always seemed to be particularly close with Kai, who will be playing golf at the University of Miami next year.
She has shared personal moments with Trump before.
Kai shared stories about Trump during a previous social media Q&A, including sharing the most embarrassing moment she’s had with him.
“My most embarrassing moment with my grandpa is I brought one of my guy friends to play golf and he goes, ‘Oh my God! Look how handsome your boyfriend is,’ and all that,” she said. “And I got so embarrassed because like, he has a girlfriend. That was just awkward. That’s my most embarrassing moment ever.”
That’s pretty typical grandpa behavior. No surprise there. Though now, having heard this story, it’s hard not to wonder what that dude’s girlfriend thought about him spending the day at a Trump golf course with the president’s granddaughter…
He’s not exactly getting points from people for doing normal grandpa things.
Judging by the reactions to Kai’s story about her grandpa’s phone call, it doesn’t seem like many people are won over.
“Now we have to show a human side to something normal like a grandfather calling his granddaughter. Because sending bombs to a school full of children in Minab wasn’t human,” one person wrote in a post on X. “Not even with all the bleach in the world can they whitewash the criminal terrorist Trump.”
Others made it clear that they aren’t all that impressed with Kai, either: “Does anyone care?? Kai is becoming very narcissistic and might benefit from toning it down and working on developing her own substance.”
But seriously, the bar is on the floor if we’re giving Trump props for staying in touch with his own grandchildren. That should be the bare minimum, whether the grandpa in question happens to be the president of the United States or not.
