What to Know
After giving birth to four daughters, Kylie Kelce knows a thing or two about how much our bodies can change during and after pregnancy. On this week’s episode of her podcast, Kylie confessed that part of her post-baby body reminds her of a rhinoceros, and that silly admission is enough to make a lot of moms out there who are struggling with the same thing feel way less alone. Leave it to Kylie to talk about the postpartum period exactly like it is — after all, her podcast is called Not Gonna Lie for a reason.
Kylie admitted just how challenging it is to find the right bathing suit after giving birth.
During the segment of the podcast called “You Know What’s F—– Up?” Kylie answered the question like this: “The feeling of putting on a bathing suit postpartum.”
She then elaborated by explaining that having her bellybutton pierced pre-pregnancy has presented a unique challenge when shopping for a new swimsuit postpartum.
“It stretched out with the rest of my belly while I was making human beings and then it never went back. It is truly something that bothers me so much,” she said. “Have you ever seen the lip of a rhinoceros? That’s what the top of my belly button looks like. Would you want that to be out and about?”
She’s definitely not the only one who feels this way.
If the comments on this particular clip from the Not Gonna Lie Instagram account are any indication, Kylie is in good company.
One commenter said, “me watching this pregnant with my belly button ring hole stretching as we speak.”
“Everyone says ‘give yourself grace’ and I’m just over here like HOW!? How do I give myself grace??? Someone please teach me,” another fellow mom wrote.
Kylie is trying to be kind to herself, and reminded her fellow moms out there to do the same.
It’s often easier said than done — especially while swimsuit shopping — but Kylie’s reminder to herself and her listeners is an important one.
“The person who is the most concerned about what you look like in your bathing suit is you,” she said. “Other people are not going to be highly bothered by your bathing suit or how you look in it. They’re also not going to be nearly as critical. We need to be more gentle on ourselves and not let bathing suits be the thing that hold us back from enjoying summer activities.”
It’s hard to get used to a brand new body after having a baby, but it will happen eventually, and in the meantime, remember that creating new life with that body is no small thing. You’re entitled to feel how you feel about your body, but don’t forget to be proud of yourself, too.
