What to Know
When Taylor Swift released her first single, “Tim McGraw,” 20 years ago, she was fully seated in the country music genre and would remain there for the first few years of her career. This means that over time, she’s had the chance to meet and work with many of the greats, including Alan Jackson. So why were fans so upset to see her face when it popped up on the screen at Alan’s farewell concert over the weekend?
Taylor appeared in a video message congratulating Alan at his farewell concert.

On Saturday night, the 67-year-old country legend ended his touring career with a final show in Nashville called Last Call: One More for the Road – The Finale.
According to Billboard, Taylor wasn’t alone in sending him a sweet message to mark the milestone. Several of his fellow country stars contributed videos congratulating Alan on 30 years of his career, including Reba McEntire and Keith Urban.
“I just want to say thank you for your decades of your incredible songwriting and performances and the way that means so much to us, the fans,” Taylor said in the video, adding that his favorite song of hers is “Drive.”
“I appreciate you so much for the ways that you have treated me and other artists and writers with such support and encouragement over the years, and I’m so exited for you doing this show and just appreciate you so much. Love you!” she added.
Surprisingly, her video got a lot of boos.
Videos of the moment that have surfaced on social media show that some members of the audience booed Taylor as soon as she appeared on the screen. Though it’s not clear why they’re booing her, it seems like some people might not appreciate that she participated since she’s no longer considered a country star.
Still, that doesn’t mean that Alan wasn’t a big influence on her music, especially during her early career — at that time, she was very much a country artist.
Plenty of Swifties stepped up to defend her on social media.
The fans booing her is crazy disrespectful when she's literally honoring him. No class at all. #AlanJackson pic.twitter.com/PTOZYc1SHq

In the comments on the TikTok video of the booing, some people pointed out that in other area of the arena, people were cheering for Taylor even louder, and many emphasized just how disrespectful the booing from fans was not just to Taylor, but to Alan, too.
“Absolutely insulting to her and especially to Alan Jackson,” one person wrote.
Plus, as another commenter added: “The boos are ironic because I’m willing to bet that many of those people’s current favorite country artists would say that Taylor Swift is one of their inspirations.”
As long as Alan felt celebrated, that’s what really matters.
