The days are getting shorter, the air is getting crisper, and the Halloween vibes are finally getting started. Even though Halloween is only one day of sugar-crazed and costume-wearing fun, there is no reason we can't lean into the spooky, supernatural vibes all month long! The truth is that it can be fun to get a little scared or to embrace the idea of the mysterious and supernatural, and there is no better way to do that than binge watching some new and classic witchy movies and TV shows.
We've rounded up 16 witchy TV shows and movies that are sure to make us want to rock some black lipstick and maybe cast a spell or two this month (or maybe just eat some mini candy bars and cuddle under a blanket because that's a valid life choice, too). Fair warning, though: This list is for grown-up witches, so not all the choices here are safe for little eyes. Grab a black cat and the remote. There is plenty of great witch content to enjoy before the big day!

'Mayfair Witches'
Mayfair Witches, which streams on AMC+, is based on characters and a book from Anne Rice, so that means there is lots of sex, scares, and magic with real consequences. So far there is only one season available, but the show has been renewed for a second one, so there is more dark drama to come.
'A Discovery of Witches'
Another witchy TV series that is based on an EXCELLENT book is A Discovery of Witches. All three seasons of this show about a witch who falls in love with a vampire while trying to uncover the origins of supernatural creatures are available for streaming now.
'Practical Magic'
This 1998 movie, starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, is also based on a novel (Alice Hoffman's Practical Magic, also excellent). It features the story of two witchy sisters who take very different approaches to dealing with an old family curse.

'Charmed'
The only thing better than a show about a witch is a show about a witch and her equally witchy sisters! Charmed, which debuted in 1998, is streaming on Peacock and is the perfect blend of cheesy and magical. The special effects might look a little dated now, but the fashion kind of holds up thanks to the current '90s revival. Watch it for the witches and maybe a little fashion insp, too.
'Chilling Adventures of Sabrina'
Anyone who is tuning into this Netflix hit expecting something light and airy like the 1990s sitcom Sabrina the Teenage Witch might be surprised at how dark and violent this updated version is. This has gore, jump scares, and more than a little dark magic, along with some good old-fashioned teenage romance.
'The Craft'
Although there was a rebooted version released in 2020, our heart belongs to the 1996 classic version of The Craft. High school girls plus magic plus a desire for revenge is a perfect combination to enjoy with a bowl of popcorn on a cozy afternoon.
'True Blood'
Sure, True Blood is more known as a sexy vampires show (hello, shirtless Alexander Skarsgård!), but there were also several witch-based storylines over the course of the seven seasons of the HBO classic. This is FOR SURE a grown-ups only show, but it also might get us in more than just a Halloween mood. Just saying.
'Buffy the Vampire Slayer'
There is a movie version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the TV series is both better and has some great witch storylines, especially when Willow discovers that side of herself. All seven seasons are streaming on Hulu, so there is no shortage of episodes to binge between now and Halloween.

'American Horror Story: Coven'
This 2013-14 season of the American Horror Story franchise is set in New Orleans and is a little campy, a lot gory, and has an absolutely banger cast that includes Angela Bassett, Emma Roberts, Sarah Paulson, and Kathy Bates. It ended up being nominated for 17 Emmy awards because it was that good!
'WandaVision'
This Disney+ series features Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff (also known in the Marvel universe as the Scarlet Witch) and is an inventive and interesting show that is as much about grief as it is about witchcraft and big battles.
'The Witch'
Oh man, this one is CREEPY. Set in 1630, this 2016 movie (starring Anya Taylor-Joy) tells the story of a family unraveling and bad things happening that lead them to suspect their daughter is a, yep, witch. Fans of smart horror movies will love this one.
'Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters'
Is Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters an amazing movie? No, not really. But is this 2013 flick starring Jeremy Renner as the grown-up version of the fairy tale kid Hansel out for revenge against all witches still kind of fun? Yep!
'The Magicians'
Some people might call the FX series The Magicians a Harry Potter for adults, but it's more than that. Set in a magical university, this series features a main character who discovers that magic is real and that he's actually part of a universe he never knew existed. OK, that does sound a little Harry Potterish, but we promise this one isn't for kids!
'Motherland: Fort Salem'
Imagine a world where the witches won back in Salem and are now part of the US Army as a kind of special forces team. That's where the show Motherland: Fort Salem begins. We dig the unique premise and that the three seasons give us plenty of episodes to binge.
'Salem'
Another show with roots in the Salem witch trial period, Salem (which is streaming on Hulu), tells the story of a powerful witch who has some secrets to keep in the face of rising tension in her community and the threat of witch hunters.
'The Order'
We've had shows about the relationship between witches and vampires, so why not spend some time with a story about witches and werewolves? The Netflix show The Order does just that, with two soapy seasons about the secret Hermetic Order of the Blue Rose society at a fictional university. Drama and magic ensue!
