Dolly Parton Reveals a Potential ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ Reboot Is in the Works

If you were a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer — or still are one today — you might be excited to know there could be a reboot or revival of the franchise sometime in the future, but you might be surprised by the unlikely source who shared that info. Country music superstar and all-around amazing human Dolly Parton is the one offering up that intel. Why? Because her production company has been a part of the Buffy franchise since the 1992 movie, which means that now she's in the know about whether the show is coming back.

Dolly revealed that plans for a 'Buffy' reboot are still being tossed around.

"They’re still working on that," Dolly said of the show in an interview with Business Insider. "They’re thinking about bringing it back and revamping it."

Dolly didn’t elaborate on who "they" are, but her production company teamed up with Joss Whedon’s Mutant Enemy Productions and 20th Century Fox to produce the original TV series.

Dolly wasn't credited as a producer, but she was still an active part of the team.

Dolly told Business Insider that she was "very involved" with Buffy, but she didn’t often get to set because she lived across the country in Nashville, Tennessee.

"A lot of my work was done just conversing back and forth with the business people there," she said. "And I'd go out for meetings now and then."

'Buffy' star Sarah Michelle Gellar has talked about Dolly's generosity.

Buffy star Sarah Michelle Gellar talked about Dolly’s connection to the show back in 2023. During an appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, she revealed, "We never saw her [but] we’d get Christmas gifts in the beginning that would have our name, and I would think, ‘She doesn’t even know who I am.’ And then one day, someone asked her about it, and she complimented the show and my performance. I was like, ‘Oh, I can die now. Dolly Parton knows who I am and thinks I’m good.'"

Dolly didn't think much of sending gifts as a thank you.

"I didn't get to meet all of the people, but I wanted them to know that I was there for them, I was proud of them, and they were doing a great job," Dolly said. She added that although she had a hand in the show, the success ultimately went to the cast and crew who made it.

She also doesn't try to take credit for the show's success.

"That show was pretty much run by other people," she explained. "I have to give more people credit on Buffy the Vampire Slayer than me. A lot of people did so much work on that. I was very excited about the show. That little show did great."
