Guy Fieri Is Staying Out of the Public Eye After Gruesome Injury From a Nasty Fall

Just before Thanksgiving, Guy Fieri was left in a wheelchair after a gruesome injury he experienced on the set of one of his shows. Now that he’s had two months to recover, the celebrity chef is finally sharing an update on his health — and when fans can expect to see him back in the public eye again for the first time in months.

Guy’s been keeping a low profile since he was hurt, but it doesn’t sound like he’ll be flying under the radar for much longer.

Guy tore a quad muscle and required surgery.

In November, Guy fell down a flight of stairs while filming his upcoming series Flavor Town Food Fight, resulting in a torn quad muscle that required surgery and eight weeks of using a wheelchair while he recovered. For a busy person like Guy who likes to stay active, this was a tough adjustment, especially since it also meant that his sons had to take over cooking the biggest meal of the year as he was injured just before the Thanksgiving holiday.

He’s been trying to “take it easy” while he recovers.

In a new interview with People that was published this week, Guy admitted that he hasn’t been loving the fact that he can’t take part in his usual routine for the time being.

“I’m doing better. It was definitely a trying holiday, but you know what, you get some real appreciation for having the ability to just get up and walk around and do everything you used to,” he said. “I’m a big CrossFit and hiking guy, so eight weeks of no hiking has driven me kind of crazy. But I’m looking forward to it, trying to take it easy.”

There’s nothing wrong with slowing down a little, and of course, the trails will still be there waiting for him when he’s ready to take them on again.

He expects to be back in action by Super Bowl weekend.

He called his injury and the subsequent recovery “the worst thing I’ve been through in the last 20 years,” but fortunately, he can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. After confirming with his doctors, he knows he’ll be “up and ready and healthy and rolling” by Super Bowl weekend next month, when he is set to host the Flavortown Tailgate with his sons Ryder and Hunter.

“We can’t get them to return a text every time you want to text or pick up their phone when you’re trying to find them, but come Super Bowl weekend, everybody’s available now,” Guy said.

Here’s hoping his recovery continues to go smoothly. It sounds like he can’t wait to get back out there.
