On December 28, 2024, Gypsy-Rose Blanchard and her boyfriend Ken Urker welcomed their first child together. Exactly one year prior to that, Gypsy-Rose was released from prison after serving time for the murder of her mother. A lot has happened since then — after all, she’s a mom now. And according to a recent interview with People, she’s already thinking about expanding her family.
Gypsy-Rose and her boyfriend plan to use IVF.
Given that their daughter, Aurora, is not even one yet, Gypsy-Rose and Ken plan on taking some time to adjust before trying to grow their family. However, having another child is definitely something they’ve thought about. Gypsy-Rose, 34, told People that she and her boyfriend plan to use IVF (in vitro fertilization) in the future.
“Possibly the middle of next year,” she told the publication. “That’ll give us time to settle into these new changes.”
They want to have a boy.
Gypsy-Rose explained that they’ve already decided to use IVF to avoid passing microdeletion 1q21.1 onto their child. According to MedicinePlus, this is a chromosomal change that “increases the risk of delayed development, intellectual disability, physical abnormalities, and neurological and psychiatric problems.”
“We hope to do IVF sometime in the near future, but right now all our focus is on Aurora,” Gypsy-Rose told People. “As for IVF, it’s a way to ensure that I do not pass on my genetic condition of microdeletion 1q21.1.”
She also mentioned another reason IVF is appealing to them. Though it’s not their primary reason for relying on IVF, Gypsy-Rose and Ken like that they would be able to select the sex of their baby. “With it, we can choose the gender,” she said. “We would like to give Aurora a baby brother.”
Aurora has tested negative for the chromosomal abnormality.
Gypsy-Rose and Ken did not undergo IVF for their first child, they do not want to take any risks this time around. “We are thankful Aurora tested negative, but can’t take the risk for another child naturally, so IVF is our best option,” Gypsy-Rose explained.
A few weeks after welcoming Aurora, Gypsy-Rose took to her Instagram Stories to share that she was “leaning into motherhood” with the help of a book titled What to Expect the First Year. She also said she would not be sharing photos of her baby girl.
“To everyone asking, No, I will not be posting pictures of Aurora,” she wrote at the time. “I understand everyone’s excitement and we appreciate the support, but we value the privacy and safety of our daughter.”
On September 18, she shared a photo of her “little family” but used an emoji to cover her daughter’s face.
