What to Know
There are a lot of things that have happened in Minneapolis since ICE seemingly took over with no plans to leave the streets of the city. Two of those things involve the murders of innocent people who used peaceful protests to get their points across. Countless other assaults and detainments have happened over the span of just a month of ICE’s occupation in the city. So when JD Vance shared on X (formerly Twitter) one of the “craziest stories” he has after visiting the city, you might be surprised to know that it has nothing to do with the injustices of the people participating in peaceful protests.
OK, well maybe it isn’t surprising at all. But Vance shared an X post where he wrote about a story that struck him during his visit to Minneapolis, and it involves ICE agents being targeted unfairly. Imagine that. Agents being doxed and followed somewhere and forced to be uncomfortable and, dare I say, afraid. The irony is wild.
When I was in Minneapolis, I heard a number of crazy stories. But near the top of the list:

One of JD Vance’s “craziest stories” from Minneapolis is about ICE agents going to dinner.
Amid ICE agents quite literally yanking people from their homes, targeting others because of the way they look and nothing more, and tossing cans of chemical tear gas into crowds, Vance’s story that he recalled has nothing to do with the people of Minneapolis. He wrote in his post that he “heard a number of crazy stories” while in the city. But apparently, nothing quite compares to what he clearly sees as unfair treatment of ICE agents. By the way, I have a spare tiny violin if he needs it.
“A couple of off duty ICE and CBP officers were going to dinner in Minneapolis,” Vance wrote. “They were doxed and their location revealed, and the restaurant was then mobbed. The officers were locked in the restaurant, and local police refused to respond to their pleas for help (as they’ve been directed by local authorities). Eventually, their fellow federal agents came to their aid.”
He added that “this is just a taste of what’s happening in Minneapolis.” Yes, that’s true. Because the broader picture includes innocent people being physically assaulted and threatened on the streets for sharing their thoughts on how to protect others.
“They have created the chaos so they can have moments like yesterday, where someone tragically dies and politicians get to grandstand about the evils of enforcing the border,” Vance continued in his post. “The solution is staring everyone in the face. I hope authorities in Minneapolis stop this madness.”
After Vance posted that on X, his supporters and critics battled it out with their replies to the X post.
One pointed out, “‘Enforcing the border’ – THEY ARE IN MINNESOTA. THERE IS NO BORDER.”
Another added, “Shooting on protestors is not okay no matter how dumb the protests are. Labelling protestors as domestic terrorists is shameful.”
Others praised Vance and the ICE agents in question and called for immediate arrests of anyone dozing ICE agents. But Vance’s message is pretty clear in his unwavering sympathy and understanding for the agents whose force has caused a city to erupt in disorder.
