In January 2025, Jessica Simpson confirmed that she and her husband, Eric Johnson, have separated after 10 years of marriage. In February, she released music for the first time in years. The lyrics of one of her recently released songs left some fans wondering whether infidelity was the reason behind Jessica and Eric’s split. In spite of the “painful situation in [their] marriage” and the cheating rumors, the exes remain friendly, according to a recent report.
Jessica and Eric are living separately but see each other often.
In January, Jessica said she and the former NFL player “have been living separately navigating a painful situation in our marriage.” She emphasized that their three children were their top priority. More recently, an insider told Us Weekly that Jessica and Eric still “talk and see each other all the time.”
Things seem rather amicable — probably because of their kids.
The insider added that Jessica and Eric “are getting along well,” and will continue to do so. The former couple has “decided that no matter what happens, they will get along for the kids.” Even though they’re living separately, they appear to have a good co-parenting relationship and “will be at a lot of holidays and birthdays together.”
They have not officially filed for divorce.
Jessica and Eric had sparked divorce rumors months before they actually confirmed their split. On several occasions, they were both spotted without their wedding rings. As Jessica promoted her new music, some fans thought one of her promo posts seemed like a “breakup post.”
Though the estranged couple later confirmed their split, they have not filed for divorce. The Us Weekly insider has no reason to think that Jessica and Eric will get back together, but also noted that “you never know.”
Jessica’s new music makes it sound like someone cheated on her.
Of course, songwriters can draw inspiration from so many different things, so the fact that Jessica sings about infidelity doesn’t mean that Eric cheated on her. But that didn’t stop some of her fans from suspecting it after hearing the lyrics of “Leave.” In the song, Jessica sings, “What we had was magic/Now you made it tragic/Giving her what you gave to me/Now the well that you drink from’s empty/Your weakness made me lonely.”
During a March performance, Jessica referred to herself as “a very single lady.” She described “Leave” as “a heartbreak, p—ed off song.”
