Jinger Duggar’s Husband Jeremy Vuolo Slammed for His ‘Disturbing’ Ideas About Marriage

After celebrating their eight-year wedding anniversary earlier this month, Jinger Duggar and Jeremy Vuolo are looking back on their relationship, and some fans really don’t like what they have to say. In fact, some are calling Jeremy’s take on marriage “disturbing,” and some even think what he shared on this week’s episode of the couple’s podcast could hint that he’s made some major transgressions against Jinger in the past.

On this week's episode of Jinger and Jeremy's podcast, they talked about overcoming difficult obstacles in their marriage.

One of those challenges came when Jinger’s older brother, Josh Duggar, was arrested and later convicted on crimes involving child sexual assault material, and Jinger said that she and Jeremy leaned in their faith and each other during that time.

“There was so much heartache and pain. Yet at the same time, I think we just leaned into each other,” she said. Later, she added, “Your love for me regardless of what we were walking through, it was so comforting and so helpful, and God allowed all of that.”

One part of the podcast really stuck out to fans, though — and not in a good way.

In a post on Reddit, one podcast listener shared a clip of Jeremy making what the person called an “impassioned diatribe” about marriage. He advised couples not to go into marriage thinking they’ve “plotted out” the way things are going to go and believing that “as long as everything goes according to plan, we’ll stay together, but if something messes up, well, I might be out.”

Jeremy said people who believe they can leave a marriage when things get hard have entered into a 'selfish, manipulative contract.'

“What a horrible, manipulative, cruel way to approach the most sacred union between souls,” he said. “Marriage is recognizing that people change because circumstances fluctuate, but we’re committed no matter what.”

Fans especially took issue with the 'no matter what' part of Jeremy's speech.

“This is why I stayed in a horrible marriage for 10 years. Because they told me that temporary earthly suffering is much better than an eternity of torment in h—,” one commenter wrote. “I’m so glad that I didn’t listen to them!”

Another person said, “It’s almost like he’s trying to emphasize how committed he is to his wife and yet…he makes it sound like a threat to his wife. Like he can do whatever he pleases and she’d better not leave him.”

One person even believed that because Jeremy already had a script about not leaving a marriage, the person would “bet he’s already strayed.”

Others came to Jeremy's defense.

“Setting aside the religious associations I don’t really have any problem with the spirit of what he is saying. Marriage is f—ing hard, it requires sacrifice, it requires compromise, it requires mutual respect. It isn’t easy and it shouldn’t be undertaken lightly,” one commenter wrote.

Hopefully in that “no matter what,” Jeremy isn’t actually talking about people leaving a harmful or toxic environment, but instead being willing to work through tough changes with their partner – but he’s the only person who truly knows the intent of his words.
