Kate Middleton and the late Princess Diana have both held the title of Princess of Wales, and they’re both royal style icons in their own right, but now, that’s not all they have in common. When the royal family shared an Instagram post in honor of International Women’s Day on March 8, both Kate and Diana were missing, and fans aren’t happy about the snub.
The post, which was shared on the family’s official Instagram account, wasn’t just made to pay tribute to the female members of the royal family – it was also comprised only of photos taken by female photographers.
“From Frances Sally Day’s photographs of Queen Victoria in the 1850s, to Dorothy Wilding’s portraits of a young Queen Elizabeth II in 1952, and Nigerian photographer Christina Ebenezer’s recent portraits of The Duchess of Edinburgh, female photographers have captured members of the Royal Family in their own unique ways since the artform began,” read the caption on the post.
The post includes photos of Queen Elizabeth and Queen Camilla, along with Queen Victoria and Queen Alexandra in photos that date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s. Even Princess Anne and Sophie, Prince Edward’s wife, were included.
But two very prominent members of the family were missing – Kate and Diana – and boy, did their followers notice.
“You’re missing The Princess of Wales, both of them,” one commenter wrote.
Another person commented, “Where is HRH Catherine, Princess of Wales? One of the most popular and influential members of the Royal Family, and one of the members of the future of the Monarch. It’s insulting at its worst.”
Others took offense at Camilla being included in the post when Kate and Diana were left out. “Hey, so instead of honoring a woman who knowingly destroyed not one but two marriages, why not feature the two princesses of wales?” one commenter wrote.
It was especially surprising that Kate was left out of a post that honored female royals and female photographers, because Kate happens to be both. She’s the one who snaps the portraits of her children that are shared each year on their birthdays. It would seem that she would have been perfect to feature in this post.
Unsurprisingly, Kate hasn’t reacted to the snub publicly, but she and Prince William did share their own post on social media for International Women’s Day, giving shout-outs to women who had inspired them over the past year.
