Katy Perry Edited Harrison Butker’s Controversial Graduation Speech for Pride Month

Katy Perry isn’t quite done with Harrison Butker’s controversial graduation speech. A few weeks ago, the Kansas City Chiefs kicker ruffled feathers with his commencement speech at Benedictine College. In the speech, he shared his controversial views on abortion, gender roles, and Pride Month, among other things.

His words immediately drew criticism from women who believe that his beliefs are incredibly outdated, and many have taken to social media to speak openly about their thoughts on what he had to say. In an effort to kick off Pride Month, which started over the weekend, Katy got the good idea to put her own spin on Harrison Butker’s speech, seeming to correct all his missteps.

Katy Perry posted a heavily edited cut of Harrison Butker’s speech on her Instagram with a special message for her fans.

“Fixed this for my girls, my graduates, and my gays — you can do anything, congratulations and happy pride ️‍ ️‍⚧️ ,” she wrote.

The edit rights a lot of wrongs.

The edit now has Harrison Butker coming off as praising women for their choices rather than tearing them down.

“For the ladies present today, congratulations on an amazing accomplishment. You should be proud of all that you have achieved to this point in your young lives. How many of you are sitting here now about to cross this stage and are thinking about all the promotions and titles you’re going to get in your career? I would venture to guess that the women here today are going to lead successful careers in the world,” he now says.

No one knows what Harrison Butker thinks about this edit.

“I say all of this to you because I have seen it firsthand. How much happier someone can be supporting women and not saying that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world. The road ahead is bright. Things are changing, society is shifting and people, young and old, are embracing diversity, equity and inclusion,” the next section of the video says.

It ends with Butker saying, “I want to say Happy Pride Month to all of you, and congratulations Class of 2024!”

The original speech was full of strong opinions from Butker.

Of course, Harrison Butker’s actual speech wasn’t nearly as celebratory of choice. In his speech, he claimed that women “have had the most diabolical lies told to you.”

He continued, saying that some women “may go on to lead successful careers in the world,” but that he would “venture to guess that the majority of you are most excited about your marriage and the children you will bring into this world.”

And he didn’t stop there. He also seemed to attack the LGBTQ community and Pride, referring to Catholic pride as “not the deadly sin sort of pride that has an entire month dedicated to it, but the true God-centered pride that is cooperating with the Holy Ghost to glorify him.”

Women were not impressed by his words.

Women wasted no time calling out his words, with many commenting on Kansas City Chiefs Instagram posts as a way to get their point across.

“Are women with college degrees, no kids, or marriage allowed to watch?” one woman asked.

“Would love to watch but probably will be too busy living out my vocation cooking in the kitchen,” another woman added.

“Sry can't make it since my life doesn't start until I get married so I technically don't exist right now ☹️,” a woman commented on a different KC post.

Someone else asked: “I’m unmarried and 39. Does my dad need to give me permission to leave the kitchen to watch?”
