Kim Kardashian just celebrated her son Psalm’s 6th birthday. The Skims cofounder took to social media to share an adorable video in honor of her little one. In the sweet video, Psalm showed off his dance moves as “Bye Bye Bye” by NSYNC played in the background. While many fans thought the video was super cute, it also made some people question Kim’s parenting decisions.
In the caption, Kim wished her son a happy birthday.
“Happy 6th Birthday to the biggest Deadpool Wolverine fan in the world,” Kim captioned the video. “I love you so much my baby boy! You bring so much joy to every room when you dance your heart out to bye bye bye!”
On Instagram, some fans praised Psalm’s dance moves and said Kim’s video was “so cute.”
Some fans questioned why Psalm is allowed to watch an R-rated movie.
To many of Kim’s followers, Deadpool & Wolverine didn’t exactly seem like the most age-appropriate movie for a 6-year-old. “That movie is an R rated film. Just saying,” one fan commented on Kim’s post. “Another person questioned, “Ummm … Did he see the Rated PG version or something?”
While some parents could understand making exceptions at times, allowing a kid Psalm’s age to watch Deadpool & Wolverine still seemed to take things too far. “I know we all allow our kids to watch inappropriate stuff to a certain extent but DEADPOOL?!” a third person wrote. “AT 6?!”
A fourth critic took aim at Kim’s parenting skills. “LOL he’s 6 watching murder,” the person commented. “Good parenting Kim.”
Some fans noticed that even the clip that played behind Psalm as he danced was super violent.
On Reddit, some fans jumped to Kim’s defense. “There is always a chance that he’s just watched this part of the movie, and has seen the dance on tiktok or something,” one fan wrote. However, others pointed out that even the clip in Kim’s video showed “people being violently killed.”
At first, one fan thought Kim’s celebratory birthday post was super cute — until they paid closer attention to the Deadpool & Wolverine clip in the background. “It’s even so violent in the background of the video,” they wrote. “My reaction went from awe to oh no, real quick!”
One critic had questions for anyone who defended Kim’s parenting, asking, “Do you genuinely think that’s appropriate for a kindergartener?”
Some parents said that they know of other kids Psalm’s age who have seen the movie, so it appears that Kim is not alone in making this controversial parenting decision. “I was shocked by how many kids at my son’s grade school knew who Deadpool was and watched the movie,” a concerned parent responded. “I do not think the movies are age-appropriate at all.”
