Now that the news is officially out that Lady Gaga is engaged to businessman Michael Polansky, she’s opening up about what happened when her new fiancé popped the question. When Gaga appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Tuesday, she revealed that although Michael’s proposal might be considered a bit unusual to some, as a “modern lady” she loved it. After all, this is Lady Gaga — unusual seems like the way to her heart!

The big moment took place right after Lady Gaga's birthday in March.
She told host Jimmy Kimmel that although Michael did throw her a big birthday dinner, that’s not when he decided to ask.
Instead, it took place a little while afterward, when the couple was on a rock-climbing trip together.
“He didn’t propose to me at the top,” she said. “We climbed up to the top, and we looked around, and we took some photos.”
Instead of proposing on the mountain, Michael chose a more low-key moment.
And before he asked her to marry him, Michael asked for her permission to propose first. We love a man who is all about consent!
“We went back down and we were just walking back to the room,” she continued on the show. “It was very Michael to ask me if he could ask me. He wanted to know if it was OK to propose before he proposed. I was like, ‘Yes! It’s so OK!’”
He didn't get down on one knee at all.
That didn’t upset Gaga, though, because in her words: “I’m a modern lady, I like what he did.”
And in the end, that’s all that matters, isn’t it? Instead of approaching her with a ring box as he asked her to marry him, per tradition, she said he simply pulled the ring out of his backpack, adding, “it was so super cute.”

Their wedding is still in the early planning stages.
Knowing Lady Gaga and her love for all things theatric, you might assume that she’s planning an elaborate wedding, but the bride-to-be is undecided on that front.
“I don’t know what we’re going to do,” she admitted. “We’re not exactly sure yet. We actually talk a lot about just going to a courthouse just the two of us and [then] ordering Chinese food. But also, knowing me, it could become like a circus with unicorns.”
That would be pretty cool …
Lady Gaga confirmed her engagement to Michael over the summer.
In a clip that French prime minister Gabriel Attal shared of his encounter with the singer at the 2024 Paris Olympics, Lady Gaga can be heard introducing Michael as her “fiancé.”
Congrats to this happy couple! Whatever they decide to do for their big day, we just hope we get to see the bride in her dress.
