Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Have Opened Their Home to Friends Evacuating Wildfires

As the Los Angeles area continues to battle devastating wildfires, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are doing what they can to help. Not only have they opened up their Santa Barbara home to their loved ones who have been in the affected areas, but they’re also sharing resources for those who need them during this unthinkably scary time.

The wildfires are still spreading through the area.

They’ve left so much destruction in their wake, decimating entire neighborhoods in a matter of minutes, threatening people’s lives, and leaving at least 10 people dead as of Friday morning. As USA Today reported, Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone has said that more than 10,000 structures have been destroyed, including the homes of celebrities like Billy Crystal, Spencer and Heidi Pratt, and Paris Hilton.

Harry and Meghan's home is not in the path of the fires.

As People pointed out, Meghan and Harry’s Montecito home is about 90 miles north of Los Angeles, so they haven’t been evacuated. The magazine has confirmed that Meghan and Harry opened up their doors to friends who did have to evacuate.

That’s not all they’re doing to help, either – their Archewell Foundation is looking for the best way to help and has donated essential supplies and clothing to those who lost their homes.

Harry and Meghan issued a statement on the fires on Thursday.

Published on their website, Sussex.com, Harry and Meghan listed resources that could be helpful during this time, both for those who are affected by the wildfires and those who are hoping to help.

They also encouraged people to open up their homes to those in need.

“If a friend, loved one, or pet has to evacuate and you are able to offer them a safe haven in your home, please do. And be sure to check in with any disabled or elderly neighbors to see if they need help evacuating,” Harry and Meghan wrote on the website.

They added, “Some families and people have been left with nothing. Please consider donating clothing, children’s toys & clothing, and other essentials.”

It's been a tough week for Harry and Meghan.

Along with the terrifying wildfires, earlier this week, Meghan shared that they’d had to say goodbye to her beagle, Guy, whom she adopted in 2015.

“I have cried too many tears to count – the type of tears that make you get in the shower with the absurd hope that the running water on your face will somehow make you not feel them, or pretend they’re not there. But they are. And that’s okay too,” Meghan wrote in a post on Instagram. “Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my sweet Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know.”
