20 Times the Royals Looked Pretty in Pink

We get to see the royals at a lot of public events, so patterns between their wardrobes are bound to crop up eventually. We've noticed that the royal women sure love the color pink — especially Queen Elizabeth and Kate Middleton. But even royals such as Princess Beatrice and Princess Margaret have sported the shade over the years. And yes, the neutral-loving Meghan Markle has even been spotted in pink a couple of times too.

Pink is a flattering color on many people, so it's not surprising that it's become a royal staple. And because it comes in so many shades — from blush to dusty rose to bold neon — there's a little something for every royal's personal sense of style. Here are 20 times the royal ladies shone in the color over the years.

What a Throwback

Although the Queen is very no-nonsense, she does enjoy a fun dress-up day. She's been spotted in all kinds of colors in her career as a royal, such as this pink dress with a matching hat and scarf. She wore the ensemble in 1977, when bright colors were all the rage. Neons aren't quite as in now, but she's never given them up.

Bright Neon

The reason why the Queen wears so many bright colors is simple — she wants her adoring public to be able to see her from afar. She even reportedly once said to biographer Robert Hardman, "I can never wear beige because nobody will know who I am." It would be very hard for her to go from this bright pink to a dull color.

The Queen in Dusty Rose

Elizabeth isn't always wearing the world's brightest shades. Sometimes, she'll go with a less intense color, such as this dusty rose suit and matching hat. She can pull off either style — bright or muted — so it's fun to see her experiment. She's been in the public eye so long, she's been seen in every color under the rainbow.

Before Princess Diana, the Queen's sister, Margaret, was known as the most fashionable royal. Among her many glamorous looks was this pink polka dot dress that she wore in 1949. It's such a cool design, and we especially love the heart neckline. It also reminds us a bit of something Minnie Mouse would wear — in a good way!

Throughout her life, pink was a frequent color choice for Margaret when she was picking outfits for engagements. In 1960, she wore this jeweled pink gown to the Alamo premiere in London. The dress is so fancy, it's like she's going to her prom — especially with the fur stole and blinged-out accessories. She looks gorgeous!

The Princess of Wales looks just like '90s Barbie in this bubblegum pink Versace suit. Diana wore this set while on a trip to Argentina in 1995. She was one of the first royals to really embrace designer fashion, paving the way for Kate and Meghan to get hot-off-the-runway looks for themselves.

Floaty Pink Gown

The pink in Diana's gown here really brings out the natural flush of her cheeks. The dress was designed by Victor Edelstein for her to attend a royal banquet. It's a bit of a bold choice for a formal dinner — just because it does have spaghetti straps — but the princess was always breaking royal protocol with her outfits.

Fun Pants

This was one of Diana's more casual looks that she always rocked so well — just a simple pink cardigan and pink and white checked capri pants. It was the perfect outfit for a day spent chasing young Prince Harry around. As much as we love her dazzling floor-length gowns, they're not all that suited for proper parenting.

Beatrice in Bold Pink

It seems the Queen's granddaughter Beatrice inherited her love of bright pink. She especially likes pulling out the color when attending weddings. She wore this bold look to a 2016 ceremony in London. Although her mom and sister opted for more basic looks, Bea was all about standing out in this color.

More Wedding Attire

Here's another pink dress that Beatrice wore to a wedding — this time for the nuptials of model Petra Ecclestone and James Stunt. The ceremony was in Rome, and Beatrice looked so fab in her flowy strapless gown. Her mother, Sarah Ferguson, attended the same wedding in a very similar shade of pink.

Business Suit

Next to the Queen, the royal who wears pink the most is definitely Kate. She's basically the unofficial queen of the color. She also wears it in all shades, from the lightest blush tones to the brightest neon. Here, she sported the traditionally feminine color in a power suit, which is a power move all on its own.

So Bright

It's not just Beatrice who likes wearing pink to weddings. Kate also has sported the color before. She wore this bright coat dress with a matching fascinator to Beatrice's sister Eugenie's October 2018 wedding. She probably pulled a little attention from the bride in this outfit — it's hard to look away!

Blush Tones

Another day, another pink wedding. When Kate's sister, Pippa Middleton, got married in May 2017, her color scheme was white and a pale pink. Both Kate and her daughter, Charlotte, sported the pretty color shade to the ceremony (Kate all over and Charlotte on her dress' sash). And this was right at the height of the millennial pink craze, so Pippa was totally on trend with this color palette.

Twinning With Charlotte

Charlotte and Kate may have had to match at Pippa's wedding since they were in the ceremony, but the two coordinate even when they don't have to. Kate loves a matching mommy-daughter moment. For one of the Trooping the Colour ceremonies, the Duchess of Cambridge sported a pink dress to match Charlotte's floral frock.

The duo was back in pink again for one of Prince William's polo matches. Kate attended the laid-back event in a breezy sundress, while Charlotte wore a white dress decorated with a small pink flower design. They weren't out and out matching, but the color scheme between the pair was similar.

Pink To Match a Royal Fan

Get the tissues ready because this story will make you cry. During lockdown, Kate promised Mila, a young cancer patient, that if they ever got to meet, they could both wear pink dresses — Mila's favorite color. Months later, Mila got to visit the palace, and Kate obviously remembered to wear pink. She looked so chic, and the duo was absolutely adorable together.

On this occasion, the duchess opted for a plain pair of black trousers to offset how bright the rest of her outfit was. We love this matching blouse and jacket set in bubblegum pink. The Max & Co. ensemble was new for the duchess' wardrobe, and we hope she brings it back soon. The bright shade looks so good on her.

With a Coordinating Mask

Just call her Coordinating Catherine. The duchess loves to pair her clothing with her accessories and keep everything in the same color family. So when required to wear a mask at the 2021 Wimbledon tournament, Kate made sure to get a floral fabric one that complemented her floaty pink dress. Make the global health restrictions work for you, ya know?

Meghan's Maternity Look

Unlike Kate, Meghan hardly ever wore pink. She preferred a neutral color scheme for most of her wardrobe. But she did pull out a pale pink item every once in a while. This blush dress with matching blazer is so chic and the perfect tone to complement Meghan's features.

Off the Shoulder

It was blush again for the 2018 Trooping the Colour ceremony. Meghan shocked some people when she showed up to the event in an off-the-shoulder dress because that's technically against protocol. But she looked so good in the pink design that we certainly didn't care that her shoulders were showing. She paired her chic outfit with a matching blush-colored hat.
