Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs Has Been Put on Suicide Watch in Jail as He Awaits Trial

Following Sean “Diddy” Combs‘ arrest and indictment earlier this week, two judges have denied his lawyer’s proposal for bail, which means the rapper will be behind bars until his trial begins. And according to a new report, authorities have placed him on suicide watch because he appears to be at risk. Diddy was taken into custody in Manhattan on Monday.

According to what a source told People, Diddy has been placed on suicide watch as a “preventative measure.” After everything that’s happened this week, the 54-year-old is in shock, and his mental state is considered to be “unclear” at this point.

This means Diddy will receive extra supervision at the facility.

According to CNN, procedures for suicide watch are different at each jail or prison facility, but they will have increased supervision that will include staff who have been trained in suicide intervention, and they will likely be checked on at 15-minute intervals or something similar.

They will likely also be kept in a room that’s considered “suicide resistant,” or without anything in the cell that could aid them in a suicide attempt, including items such as towels and extra clothing. They may also be provided finger food without utensils.

Diddy's lawyer offered a bail package to two different judges this week.

On Wednesday, People reported that laywer Marc Agnifilo offered up a $50 million bail, promising that Diddy would spend the time at home doing “nothing but prepare for his trial” as he was supervised by a 24/7 security team. He also said Diddy would voluntarily give up access to the internet and his cell phone. But both judges he presented this to rejected the offer, with one judge calling the rapper an “extreme danger to the community.”

His indictment was unsealed on Tuesday.

It was then that the court revealed Diddy had been arrested on charges of sex trafficking, racketeering and transportation to engage in prostitution. Prosecutors accused him of throwing events called “freak-offs,” or ” elaborate and produced sex performances,” People reported. He allegedly manipulated women to participate by threatening their livelihood and giving them narcotics,  and he is accused of flying in sex workers to join with the help of his employees. Investigators said they found supplies for these parties in his homes in Miami and Los Angeles, including 1,000 bottles of baby oil and lubricant.

More information on the arrest and court proceedings will come next week.

Another conference hearing for Diddy is set for the morning of September 24, though a timeline for a trial has yet to be released.

People reported that Agnifilo has asked for his client to be transferred to a facility in Essex County,  New Jersey, but a decision on that, which will have to be made by the Bureau of Prisons, has not been announced.
