What to Know
Since Donald Trump began his second presidential term last year, his social media team has been known for using moments in pop culture and some of today’s biggest celebrities as inspiration for their posts — especially celebrities who have been open about disagreeing with his politics. After Taylor Swift’s wedding last weekend, the White House has made more than one social media post themed to her nuptials and brand, and critics really aren’t happy with the way she’s chosen to respond.
The White House has shared multiple Taylor-inspired posts over the past week.
We’ll hand it to the White House social team — they knew that Taylor’s wedding on July 3 was going to be all anyone was talking about, and they tried their best to ride that wave (even if their multiple Eras-tour themed videos are so AI they’re unsettling to watch). Not only did they share a post recreating her wedding announcement on the screens outside of Madison Square Garden, but the White House’s X account also showed Donald starring in his own Eras Tour poster.
The Trump administration knows that Taylor isn’t a fan of the president’s, and neither is the majority of her fanbase. So why not use the opportunity to rile her and her Swifties up over a holiday weekend?
Taylor has responded to the posts with nothing but silence.

This isn’t the first time that the White House has tried to get at Taylor using her music and imagery, and it most certainly isn’t going to be the last — and she’s not the only liberal artist they’ve targeted.
But each time, Taylor’s response is the same: Total silence. She doesn’t speak out against it, she just chooses to ignore it, and that’s not enough for many people who wish she’d stand up to Trump.
“I’ve noticed her silence. Very disappointing though not really surprising,” one person wrote in a comment on Facebook.
Another said, “She hasn’t uttered a single word of disapproval over anything this administration has done. She is one of the most influential people on the planet and hasn’t used any of that power to criticize the rise of fascism, or support the resistance. People with way less access to security, who are at significantly higher personal and financial risk for speaking out against the administration have still done it. She hasn’t. She’s made her choice clear.”
In the past, she’s made it clear where she stands politically (and faced backlash for that, too).
Not only has she endorsed democratic candidates, including Kamala Harris, during influential elections, but she’s also spoken out against Trump in the past, including in 2020 when she tagged him directly in a post on X.
“After stoking the fires of white supremacy and racism your entire presidency, you have the nerve to feign moral superiority before threatening violence? ‘When the looting starts the shooting starts’??? We will vote you out in November,” she wrote at the time.
And for Taylor, speaking out against Trump may not be as cut and dry as her critics might think. Sure, she’s wealthy and well protected enough to withstand any backlash she might face, but after the 2024 Southport stabbings at a dance class themed to her music left three children dead and she was forced to cancel her Eras tour stop in Austria because of a foiled terrorist attack that was later discovered to be politically motivated, maybe it’s not just her safety she’s thinking of.
Besides, is there anything that irritates Donald Trump more than being ignored?
