Three months after Todd Chrisley was released from federal prison, he’s opening up about the transition back to his life with his family on the outside. In a new interview with E! News, Todd admitted that there’s been an “adjustment period” as he and his wife Julie Chrisley have settled in back home with their children, as nice as it’s been for them to be back.
Todd and Julie began serving their sentences in January 2023, so they were away from home for more than two years before they were released, which meant that coming home was a bit jarring — and that must have been especially true since they jumped right into filming their upcoming reality show, The Chrisleys: Back to Reality, which premieres on Monday.
“Coming home to your people, to your surroundings, is always a comforting thing, but there is that adjustment period because you went from your whole life doing things one way to the last 28 months having to do someone else’s way,” Todd told the outlet.
That doesn’t mean he wasn’t happy to be home, though.
“I was glad to be in my bed,” he said. “I was glad to be with my wife beside me. Knowing that Chloe is in the room next door and that I got to go in and give her a kiss good night. Knowing that Grayson was in his bedroom. Knowing that Savannah was in her bedroom. Knowing that Chase was coming in and out, that my mother was coming in and out, I had longed for that. So, that was a blessing.”
And speaking of his daughter, Savannah Chrisley? She was responsible for caring for her younger brother, Grayson, and her niece, Chloe, while her parents were away, so it’s no surprise that she told E! News that having her parents home again was an adjustment, even for her.
“You’re stepping back into a world where everyone else has been living life in a different way,” she said. “As grateful as we are — clearly, I stopped at nothing to have them home — it’s a big adjustment period to have everyone thrown back in it. Everyone’s just in shock.”
Now that Todd is home again, he said he has a “greater peace” with himself after everything that he has been through.
“I have a much clearer perception of where I want my life to go, the direction I want it to go in,” he said. “I’m not as easily agitated over things that I was before. I don’t really care about certain things that shouldn’t have mattered to me then [and] they matter less now.”
