The first leaks from Prince Harry's upcoming memoir, Spare, are starting to appear online, and so far, they contain some pretty shocking accusations about Prince William. For example: Harry claims that Will and Kate Middleton told him to wear the Nazi uniform to a 2005 costume party that put him at the center of a huge controversy.
Harry caused quite a scandal with his costume in 2005.
At the time, Harry was 21 years old, and of course, the fact that he was willing to wear a costume that represented such evil, even in jest, was horrifying at the time — and even more horrifying now.
Since then, Harry has spoken up about how much he regrets that decision and even addressed it in his docuseries that premiered on Netflix last month.
"Probably one of the biggest mistakes in my life. I felt so ashamed afterward. All I wanted to do was make it right," he said, adding that he spoke with rabbi and a Holocaust survivor afterward to learn more.
In his memoir, Harry says that Will and Kate were behind the whole thing.
The future Prince and Princess of Wales hadn't even walked down the aisle yet, but they were all planning to attend the party together, which had a "Native and Colonial" theme.
According to an excerpt obtained by Page Six, Harry was still trying to decide if he wanted to dress as a pilot or in the Nazi gear when he called up his brother and future sister-in-law to see what they thought.
Harry tried on the uniform for them at home before the party.
He wrote that Will was planning to wear a homemade lion costume, and he and Kate were both pleased to see that Harry's costume would be worse.
"They both howled. Worse than Willy's leotard outfit! Way more ridiculous! Which, again, was the point," he writes.
This isn't the only negative story Harry has shared about his brother in the memoir.
In another excerpt that was published by The Guardian this week, Harry accused William of physically attacking him during an argument they had at Nottingham College in 2019. After calling Meghan Markle "rude" and "abrasive," Harry said that William "grabbed me by the collar, ripping my necklace, and he knocked me to the floor."
The altercation caused Harry to be visibly injured from a dog bowl that broke when he landed on it, and he wrote that William even asked him not to tell Meghan about their fight.
Harry truly isn't holding back when it comes to this memoir.
The book is set to hit shelves on January 10, and though there are only a few days between now and then, it wouldn't be surprising if more explosive highlights make their way online in the meantime.
We just hope the royals are prepared for this. If this is just a taste of how Harry tells his story, it could be a bumpy ride.
