17 Times Our Mothers-in-Law Made Us Want to Scream

When we get married or find ourselves in a committed long-term relationship, at some point we have to meet the in-laws. For many of us, this turns into a beautiful relationship that's full of positive stories, and amazing memories. We're the lucky ones. Other women end up with a mother-in-law who they clash with and it's basically inevitable that issues arise. It happens, we've heard the stories.

We've heard of MILs who get too involved in their grandkid's lives, right from an early age. Others have a way of sharing their opinions and advice on everything, especially when it was never asked. It can be hard to find that commonality with a woman who seems to want to do everything in her power to undermine and overstep her boundaries.

Check out these 17 times people's mothers-in-law made us all want to scream with the shenanigans they got themselves into. Some harmless, some hilarious, and some flat-out have us yelling and wondering what they were thinking in the first place.

Commenting on Our Weight

Some MILs don't seem to have an idea on how — and when — to keep their comments to themselves. This is nearly always the case when it comes to our weight. If we didn't ask, there's no need for MIL to say anything … if that's even something she's able to do?

OK, Say That Again

There's something about a MIL that makes her feel like she knows everything about parenting or that she's the only one who has done it right. Yes, she raised her kids perfectly, no issues there at all. Definitely no holes in what lessons her kids are missing, right?

Why Bring It Up?

Some of the conversations we end up having makes us scratch our heads. Then we have to wonder if she was being passive-aggressive? What is it that she's really trying to say? It's enough to make us feel like we're losing our mind a little bit. Like, just say what you're trying not to say!

Keeping Up Appearances

MIL coming through with the opinion that no one asked for. Like she had a choice in the matter to let her hair get like this and let herself go? Remember the world simply stopped for a bit? We were all asked to stay inside and nothing was really open anyway? We're glad we got through it and that our hair was one of the least of our worries.

She Found It in the Shed

Sometimes our MIL does something that makes us laugh so hard we nearly can't stop and that's what this woman got from hers. Her MIL was trying to be a responsible cat owner and was looking for cat litter – she couldn’t find it. So, she looked in the shed and well, it wasn't what it appeared. A good laugh came out of it though.

She Wore a White Dress

What in the world?! She has an updo and everything — but the bride in this photo later took to Twitter to give more context about her MIL and said, "She's frugal. But she's also incredibly generous. When my twins were newborns, she drove across town every night, slept on the sofa, and did three feedings. For two babies. Every night for months." She made a mistake, and made up for it a few times over.

Late to the Wedding

In response to the previous tweet, this woman mentioned that her MIL walked in on her wedding that was already halfway through, walked to the front of the crowd before sitting down. She ended up disrupting the entire ceremony and didn't seem to feel bad about it one bit.

Same Dress, Different Occasions

Another story in response to the wedding dress was centered around the dress a MIL chose to wear at the wedding, but it was slightly different. What's with MILs and dresses?!

Mom & MIL Talking About This Publicly

It's a good thing when two families can get along. It certainly makes life a whole lot easier. But, if this were us, we'd want the earth to open and swallow us whole. Her mom and MIL started talking – publicly — on social media and if this were us, we would know our friends were reading it up.

Mind Ya Business

We know that our parents are looking forward to becoming grandparents, however, pressure isn't needed. When our MIL tells us it's time to have a baby, or that she wants another one, it's never going to end well. We get it, we're tired though and would rather have a night away.

Another Who Asked When She Shouldn't Have

There is something about being a mother-in-law that makes it seem that it's OK to ask about our weight or critique how our body looks. We're going to guess it's the time they grew up in, but we're pretty over having this conversation over and over again.

Just Say PUBERTY

We get it that sometimes the difference between generations mean taboo subjects of the past perhaps aren't as taboo. For this MIL she made her in-law howl with the word she chose to use to try and disguise what it was she was really talking about. Just say it, MIL.

Who Invited This Woman?

MIL troubles aren't just for moms, our husbands feel it, too. This guy was excited to spend some time at home away from work and unwind. Well, that is until he found out his MIL was going to be there and he likely didn't want to hear any number of things they say that make us want to scream, so he went to work instead.

Never Done This

When MIL has a response to every situation or advice we never asked for, it makes us want to scream. At least with the global health crisis, she can't say she's ever been in this situation before. If she tries, we can just zone out that perfect advice, too.

Someone Else in Mind

It's never nice to hear that we didn't meet someone's expectations, so when this mom confessed to overhearing her MIL complain about her … ouch. To make this worse, which is already bad enough, she had just given birth, and this is what she has to hear after making MIL a grandma … wow!

Unibrow

When games are played, feelings might get hurt and that's what happened to this woman and her mother-in-law. Talk about majorly passive-aggressive.

Just Stop MIL!

We can pretty much agree now that one of the biggest things a MIL does that will make us scream is to comment on our appearance — or about growing the family. It always feels passive-aggressive when MIL does, and it's not something that too many women would feel pleased about. Mind ya business.
