One woman has the internet cheering after she decided to "spite" her mother-in-law and get the wedding of her dreams. According to the frazzled bride, her MIL has always looked down on her for not coming from a wealthy family, but she took things way too far recently when she added 80 new guests to her son's and future daughter-in-law's wedding two months before the big day. Furious, the bride-to-be came up with a plan to get back at her MIL and have the wedding that she had always dreamed of instead, but now she's wondering if she made a mistake.
Although the two have been at odds for years, things came to a head when the bride's MIL made an annoying wedding demand.
During the four years that the writer and her now-husband have been together, she's never seen eye-to-eye with her MIL. As she explained on Reddit, "she is overbearing and manipulative, and my husband admits the same."
Naturally, when the two of them got engaged things only got worse. The bride admitted that they never wanted to plan a big ceremony because "it always felt like we were planning out of obligation," she explained.
But she was livid when two months before the big day, her MIL dropped a bomb on her. She "sends me a detailed spreadsheet with about 80 people on it, telling me that none of these invitees were optional, and I had better invite all of them," the bride recalled. This was over the amount of guests they could afford to invite. Frustrated, that's when the bride decided to pull a stunt for "spite."
"This kind of flew me into a blind rage. I called everyone and cancelled. We got married in a national park with our two best friends," she wrote. The ceremony was exactly what she wanted in the first place. But did she overreact?

But some people felt that the bride should have just put her foot down with her MIL more privately and not made such a big stink.
"I think you'd have been better just to put your foot down and tell her and her guests no rather than going full-nuclear," one person wrote.

The bride later wrote that she didn't feel bad for her MIL at all. "I kind of wish the theatrics were there when we told her. She is very much an ‘appearance’ person, so she would never make a scene," she wrote.
"She kind of blanched and was visibly horrified when she realized that SHE would have to call everyone she invited and cancel on them, because they weren’t a part of our formal guest list. Honestly, it felt really good to finally see her squirm for once."
