20 Things New Moms Should Pack While Visiting Family

Let's be real — being a new mom is not easy. There's not knowing much and simply having to wing it, even with the amazing advice other moms who have gone through it will pass on. And support in the way of gear that baby needs is often covered by baby showers (see: registries).

But as holidays and other events roll around, and with many new mamas living not so close to family where the events take place, they're faced with a conundrum. Do they travel with baby, by plane, train, or car, or do they stay home? The answer truly depends on the new mom and state of the baby. For moms who choose to make the trip, we found items that will make the adventure that much easier.

There are essential items new moms need when going anywhere with baby, such as changing pads, wipes, and diapers. But different modes of transportation, like taking a road trip or the length of stay at your destination, can call for an added layer of item preparation. For example, if the family is staying for a week leading up to or after the event or holiday and maybe doing activities, a travel-adept stroller may be necessary. There are also items that may seem obvious to pack to some but not for new moms, who are navigating new territory, such as onesies, travel bottles, and pump. They'll come in handy. And it's always good to be prepared.

All of this is to say, moms don't have to know everything, but we're here to help them prepare as much as possible. Because visiting loved ones should be more fun than a hassle, and these essentials can help make that happen.
