Children love a good craft. It’s a chance for them to stretch their imaginations. They get to exercise their creativity. And in the best cases, they get to use their art to express the emotions they may not have the words to convey. But a lot of that artwork is practice. And we all know that practice isn’t always pretty.
So while the children in our lives are creating all of this artwork, we might be confused about what to do with it all. Should we display it? Tuck it away in a drawer? Trash it? One grandmother took the latter approach and it ignited some family drama.

A young mother wondered if she was too rude to her mom.
A woman wrote into Reddit’s Am I The A–hole forum to ask if she spoke too harshly to her mother. This woman, the mother of a 4-year-old son, had him when she was 16 years old. The teen pregnancy caused some conflict with her parents. They told her that the only thing they could provide for her was a room, but she would have to take care of the baby by herself.
“It was hard,” she wrote. “But it worked out in the end. My parents treat my son a lot nicer now too.” The original poster has a 14-year-old brother, who is an uncle to her little boy. “He’s the best,” OP wrote. “In fact, my son looks up to him and my brother adores him.”

The OP's son created some beautiful artwork for his uncle.
The little boy expresses that adoration through his artwork. “My son made this drawing of him and my brother and gave it to my brother for his birthday,” she explained. “My bother loved it so much that he kind of brushed off the presents me and my parents gave him. It upset my parents but they kept their mouth shut.”
OP wrote that her son has created many pictures of him and his uncle. The teen displays all of the images on his wall.
One day the OP and her son found all of his artwork was missing.
Things changed when her brother went to a sleepover and the OP took her son out for a fun day. “When we got back, my son ran to my brother’s room to show him something. The door was wide open and the first thing he noticed was that all his drawings were gone,” she wrote. She said her son started to cry and cry, and that it took forever to calm him down. Eventually, he fell asleep.
OP's mom confessed.
When the OP’s brother came back the next day, he went to hug his nephew. The boy started to cry again. OP explained that her son saw the empty wall. The teen was confused. When he went to his room and saw the empty wall himself, he almost started crying as well.
When their mother came into the room, OP's brother immediately confronted her. She explained that while cleaning his room she took them down and and threw them away because she didn’t realize how important they were to him.
OP had some choice words for her mother.
The OP said she felt betrayed. Her mother had watched her consoling her son the night before and she didn’t say anything. That’s when things went from bad to worse.
“I called her out for how she acted last night and she told me to relax. That I’m not allowed to speak to her like that. I honestly lost it and I called her a heartless b—-. My own mother. I felt bad the second I said it but it felt good too. My mom looked so shocked and just turned back and went to her room,” she explained.
Now, the OP feels guilty and wonders if she was an a–hole.
Reddit users unanimously agreed that the OP is not the a–hole in this case. They called her parents "manipulative," "jealous," and even "two-faced." We have to agree something is amiss with the OP's parents.
"Wow your mum has some serious jealousy issues going on there," one person commented. "I really hope she doesn’t cause any damage to the relationship between your brother and your son."
"It sounds like this woman has an unhealthy relationship with all of the kids in her life (including OP)," someone else wrote.
This young woman's words might have been strong, but we can certainly understand where they came from. Perhaps an apology is in order. But the OP shouldn’t be the only one making an apology.
