What is it about seeing your son have a baby that turns some mothers-in-law into a mother-in-law from H-E-L-L? That’s probably what one woman is thinking, after learning that her self-centered MIL wants to take her husband on a trip (without her), weeks after she gives birth to their baby.
My “MIL has lost her dang mind,” she wrote.
She explained that she and her husband are expecting their first baby any day now.
And while some people would be prepping their hospital bag (or getting some champagne ready to be popped), the original poster is stuck worrying about her MIL’s schemes.
The thing is, "throughout the entire pregnancy, his mom has been trying to make it all about herself and how she feels and yadayada,” she wrote in a Reddit post. “I’ve stonewalled her and am the bad guy. Whatever works!”
But recently, her MIL took things a step too far.
“I recently learned that she is trying to buy my husband a ticket to go with her on her birthday trip in September, and leave me alone with our newborn. Like what?!” she wrote.
“She really thought he’d say yes lmao,” the OP added. “Sorry momma but when we got married, his focus was no longer you."
Other people also thought the offer was cringeworthy.
"It's pretty obvious that your self-centered/ narcissistic MIL can't stand not being your husband's number one priority and not being the center of the attention," one person commented.
"Lolll the audacity of that woman," someone else wrote. "I’m hoping husband is saying something about this, like 'no, I’m gonna take care of my wife and baby so have fun on your trip.' That’s truly very selfish of her and inconsiderate."
While a third person put it like this: "I'll never understand how a woman can be so fixated on her son in such a unhealthy way. It creeps me out lol."
At the least, it seems like the OP's husband finally sees his mom's unusual behavior.
"It was very hard for me because I had to keep my mouth shut and let my husband see if for himself!" she wrote later in the thread. "Because it was just my word against hers and she’s extremely manipulative. But he’s seeing it now because I’ve quit answering her (for months now) and she’s dragged him into the crazy."
