When you decide to get married, are you really marrying your partner’s entire family? Some people believe that’s the truth. Sure, there are people who go no contact with their family for one reason or another, but that’s rare. You’ll probably have some interaction with the family, whether they like it or not. But what if you really hate them?
One man couldn’t stand his mother-in-law, so he and his wife went the revenge route. He shared the savage story in Reddit’s petty revenge sub, and it is wild.
“My MIL did NOT want me to marry my amazing wife – I wasn’t rich enough to give her the lifestyle that she thought she deserved. She bet us $10 that she wouldn’t cry at our wedding, she did, when we asked for the money she pulled out two $5 and threw them on the floor saying ‘that can go towards your inevitable divorce’ (an aside: we are still married, still in love, 47 years later),” the original poster wrote.
OP went on to explain that his MIL really wanted grandchildren and constantly pestered them about when they’d have a baby. The couple eventually decided they didn’t want children and agreed that a vasectomy was the right decision for their family.
“And we didn’t tell her … we just kept her hanging, frustrated, on the hook of possibility. It was glorious and we still laugh about it whenever she starts up about how she was too old to enjoy them when the other siblings started popping them out,” he wrote.
Redditors loved OP’s story, but some were a bit confused.
“You’ve been together 47 years and your MIL is still complaining? How old is she?” one person questioned.
“90th birthday this year. My wife and her sister started planning a secret birthday party for her. They tried to book her favourite restaurant and were told it had already been booked by … MiL,” OP responded. “She thought ‘nobody will arrange anything for me so I’ll have to do it myself’. Such a f—–g martyr.”
The petty crowd had plenty of ideas for OP’s birthday gift for his MIL.
“You have the perfect chance to get one last one over on her, at her b-day party no less. Get her a card, and then write about why and when you got the snip. Give it to her with two 5 dollar bills inside,” one commenter suggested. “I would so do this to my MIL without thinking twice. And my wife would be on board 100%.”
“We did discuss getting two $5 framed with a labelling saying ‘still waiting’, but we decided that would make us AH too,” OP responded.
“This years birthday present: poster size print of the results of the vasectomy post test stating sperm count. Highlight the date of the vasectomy with one of those enlargement circles to make sure she can see how long it’s been,” another person wrote.
But OP isn’t alone. Another petty woman had the same idea for her MIL.
“I’m in this group for sure! Never wanted kids anyway, but my MIL was a huge factor in making sure it never happened. She’s super annoying already – I can’t imagine how obnoxious and overly involved she’d try to be if we had kids,” she wrote. “Edited to add: I’ve had a tubal ligation, which MIL doesn’t know about.”
