Your wedding day is supposed to be a happy and beautiful time filled with lots of love and well-wishes. You usually assemble a guest list of people you love and who love you and will support your union. So much time and money goes into planning a wedding so you and your guests can fully enjoy yourselves. And of course, you expect your guests to mind their manners. Like if they say that they are going to attend, they should actually show up.
A TikTok couple, @grayanxiety, recently got married, but instead of the wedding of their dreams, it was all heartache. Fewer than half of the guests who RSVPed in the affirmative showed up for the event. Gray Narvaez-Dragion is transgender and uses they/them pronouns. They and their husband, Nyx, planned a lavish wedding for the 88 guests who said they were coming, but not even 40 people were on hand for the event. Narvaez-Dragion called out the no-shows, and TikTok cheered them on.
Narvaez-Dragion wanted their day to be perfect and invited guests they thought wanted to share in the celebration.
A video that has racked up 5.5 million views pans a primarily empty ballroom with text that reads, "88 people said yes … not even 40 showed up)."
We don't hear them say a word, but figuring out they are positively heartbroken isn't hard. In the comments, Narvaez-Dragion claims they spent $27,000 on a party that didn't even happen.
In a second clip, Narvaez-Dragion says that the wedding was supposed to end in an hour, but they are leaving early. They show a small table of gifts and remark, "I'm surprised we got that much." They captioned the video, "Feeling like that kid that would always be left out rn. 88 people…not even 40."
We hurt for them just thinking about it.
It was more than just the guests who didn't show up. The whole night was more of a nightmare than a dream come true.
Narvaez-Dragion said they and Nyx sat and cried in the reception room alone. They ended the reception early, understandably too upset to stick around much longer. Once the families took photos, Nyx's family bolted, leaving behind Narvaez-Dragion and their parents.
Narvaez-Dragion said their mom only spoke to them when their dad made her. They even said that their mom deadnamed them on their special day. Who does that?
They commented that the couple spent hours making candles, soaps, and spell jars as favors, now just sitting unused. This clip ends with Narvaez-Dragion showing their makeup smeared on their face.
Some people thought Narvaez-Dragion was making up the whole thing.
Of course, there will always be people who say these kinds of things aren't true to call out content creators on their presumed BS. Such was the case with Narvaez-Dragion, but they clapped back with receipts! We get a quick look at a spreadsheet from Narvaez-Dragion's phone that shows an awful lot of yeses.
Who would sit down and take that much time to enter all that information as a joke or for attention? No one. Narvaez-Dragion's story is legit and absolutely heartbreaking.
Only some things about the day were a disappointment.
Although the wedding itself wasn't what Narvaez-Dragion dreamed of, they shared a sweet interaction with their dad that seemed to make up for things. Narvaez-Dragion left something at home that they needed and were unable to retrieve. Their dad made sure the package arrived.
Narvaez-Dragion shares a text exchange between themselves and their father with text that reads, "My previously unemotionally unavailable dad stepping up and saving the day by doing whatever it takes to make sure things go ok."
The final text in their conversation comes from their dad and reads, "I loved your ceremony and Thank you for including me in your big day. I love you."
TikTok wants Narvaez-Dragion to know they are worth more than those who tried to ruin the day.
Followers left so many supportive comments on the original viral video.
"I am sorry this happened. Many people see weddings in 2023 as just a party and that's what it is with more than family and close friends invited," someone wrote.
"I've always been told that 1/2 of who you invite show up – so if you had 44 out 88 that's great – the 44 that mattered! You should've just enjoyed it!" another wrote.
"I hope you billed them and made the best of it, at least you know now what their about and what priorities they had. I would of been there " one comment suggested.
Narvaez-Dragion's most recent clip shows the couple smiling and enjoying a dance at their reception. Even though the wedding and reception may not have been how they imagined it, hopefully they will get their happily ever after.
