Pregnancy is such an important time in life. It can make you feel strong and powerful, but being pregnant can also make you feel vulnerable and delicate. A most painful, and sometimes lonely, time is when there is a loss of pregnancy. Also known as a miscarriage, it’s what happens when there is a loss of a fetus before 20 weeks of pregnancy.
We spoke with Dr. Daniel Stein, Medical Director with WINFertility and RMA of New York’s Westside Manhattan office. Board-certified in both Obstetrics and Gynecology and Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, he helped us understand valuable details about miscarriages. According to Stein, more than 80% of miscarriages happen within the first three months of pregnancy, and are less likely to happen after 20 weeks.
