The average age for a young girl to begin her menstrual period is 12. She then will spend the next three to four decades dealing with bleeding, cramping, mood swings, and all of the other fun stuff that comes along with the monthly visitor. Women’s periods vary dramatically. Some are extremely heavy, and others hardly bleed at all. The length also can depend on the person, but typically, a woman’s period lasts about a week.
One TikTok user named Poppy, though, claims her period has been going on for 950 days straight, and for years, doctors had no idea why until discovering her heart-shaped uterus.
She shared on her TikTok account @poppy_the_plant that the bleeding began in 2022 and has not stopped. The multiple doctors she’s visited who prescribed medications, performed tests, and conducted ultrasounds couldn’t determine the root cause.
She said in a TikTok video on February 1, 2025, “I have had every kind of pill, every kind of medication, every treatment, every scan, everything you can think of has been done so far. I have been on every kind of birth control, and nothing has helped. The only thing that they didn’t tell me about, the bicornuate uterus, they found on my very first scan, they just didn’t tell me about.”
According to the Cleveland Clinic, a bicornuate uterus affects less than .5% of females, and most people aren’t aware they have a heart-shaped uterus until they are pregnant or experience multiple miscarriages. Other symptoms include painful menstruation, vaginal bleeding, painful intercourse, and pelvic pain.

“A bicornuate uterus may be surgically treated through a surgery called metroplasty. But, this procedure is controversial and only performed in specific circumstances,” the Cleveland Clinic explains on its site. “The shape of the uterus will be corrected to the preferred upside-down pear shape. This surgery can be done laparoscopically, a minimally invasive surgery that does not require a large incision. The surgery involves removing the tissue that is causing the indentation or heart-shape appearance.”

After enduring multiple procedures and tests, Poppy found relief in her diagnosis but also frustration. “It can cause all the issues I’ve been having. It can cause heavy bleeding, prolonged bleeding, infertility. It can cause so many problems, and no one thought to mention it to me,” she shared in the TikTok.
Poppy added that she’s going to go for additional testing and a hormonal panel to get a definitive answer, but she finally sees relief in her future.

TikTokers couldn’t believe her story.
One wrote, “sounds like medical neglect and malpractice. please see a lawyer and see if u can get a case because that’s insane and totally unacceptable! how did they mistreat u for so long! I’m so sorry love.”
Another person wrote they wanted nothing to do with 950 days of menstrual bleeding. “I can’t even handle my 5 day cycle I can’t imagine being on it for over two years,” the commenter wrote.
Poppy’s story was familiar to at least one person, who wrote, “I had a period for 2.5 months, had an ultrasound, found bicornuate uterus, my iud was in one side and not the other and sideways, took out the iud, problem solved. Don’t know what your doctors were doing lol.”
