Family Looking for Answers After a FedEx Driver Hit Their Dog With His Truck & Just Drove Off

A Tennessee family has a lot of questions that need answers. Back in November, their pet dog was hit by a FedEx delivery truck. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the truck’s driver just kept going. It was inexcusable behavior.

Thankfully, FedEx has been in touch with the family. Although it’s nice that the company has reached out, that’s not quite enough for the family. They want the driver to be held accountable and fired if necessary.

The dog has been a beloved pet for many years.

Jessica Burleson told Tennessee news station WJHL that she adopted her dog Bear 14 years ago. The dog now lives with her parents, but she lives next door. On November 30, a FedEx driver pulled up in the driveway of her family home to deliver a package. As the driver was leaving, he hit Bear with his truck. And he just kept driving.

The video may be upsetting, so watch with caution.

“When he was leaving, he didn’t bother to stop or look to see,” Burleson said, according to the news outlet. “I mean, he clearly seen Bear. He looked over in the video and turned back. And he just kept on going even after he hit him, he never stopped. And my aunt and uncle actually witnessed him flying up our driveway and almost hit their dog as well.”

It took several hours to find Bear after the accident.

After he was hit, the family searched all over for Bear. After several hours, Burleson’s father found the dog under her trailer home.

“My dad had passed him up a couple of times. He wasn’t crying, barking, whining or anything,” she explained. “And that’s where he was. He was up under the underpin and he found him right there and got him. He had to remove the underpinning and get him out and he was terrified and brought him over here.”

The family got some very sad news.

The family took Bear to the vet following the accident to get checked out. Burleson explained that he “didn’t have any broken bones,” but that didn’t mean Bear was in the clear.”There was a tumor that was inside of his belly that had ruptured when he got hit,” she said, adding “there’s nothing they can do.”

“Either, they could either bring him home or put him down. And my mom and dad decided to bring him home. They gave him some doggy pain pills. And they basically said that he wouldn’t last more than a couple of days.”

All the family wants is an explanation and an apology from the driver.

Burleson shared that the family has been in touch with FedEx about what happened to Bear. “They haven’t really talked about what they’re going to do with the driver or anything,” she told WJHL. “They just kind of talked that they were willing to pay the vet bills.”

FedEx released a statement about the incident to WJHL, saying it sends “deepest sympathies to the family” after hearing what happened to Bear. “We take this matter very seriously and are working directly with those involved to determine the circumstances behind this event. Based on the outcome of our investigation, we will take the appropriate action.”

Burleson told WJHL that although she thinks the driver should have a reprimand or lose his job, what she really wants is an apology afrom him nd “some kind of disciplinary action to where this won’t happen to somebody else’s animal or kid.”
