A Texas man who reportedly confessed to killing three people, including a pregnant woman in June 2021, entered a guilty plea in a Houston court this week. Xavier Davis, 32, allegedly shot and killed 35-year-old Gregory Carhee, 29-year-old Donyavia Lagway, and their 6-year-old daughter, Harmony Carhee, inside their apartment. At the time, the couple’s 10-year-old daughter, Lyric, who received a gunshot wound to the arm, pretended the bullet had killed her. A toddler present at the home during the incident, did not suffer injuries.
After Davis left the residence, Lyric locked the door and called family for help, People reported. While waiting for help to arrive, she comforted her 1-year-old brother, who reportedly witnessed the brutal attack. The couple’s 8-year-old son was not home at the time.
According to a 2021 statement from the Houston Police Department, Davis was arrested on three charges of capital murder and one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. By the time prosecutors formally charged the alleged killer, however, he was in police custody on an unrelated charge.
In March 2022, police also arrested Alexus Williams in connection with the case.
“Alexus Williams, had a prior dating relationship with one of the victims, Ms. Lagway, and they had broken up shortly before the shootings,” police claimed in a release at the time obtained by People. “Investigators learned Williams arranged the robbery and suspect Davis was the shooter. Williams and Davis had been friends since they were children.”
Williams allegedly told Davis that in exchange for killing the victims, he could rob the home and take what he wanted. She allegedly FaceTimed with Davis during the murders. She reportedly pleaded not guilty to all counts.
Davis faces the death penalty if convicted.
Following the horrific crime, the community rallied around Lyric and her surviving siblings. Per ABC 13, several biker clubs held a benefit for the family to create a scholarship fund to help support their futures.
Their grandmother told the news outlet that the gesture touched her heart. “I really thank everyone for coming out here and supporting us at this time of grieving,” Mandy Lagway said. “I love it. It’s wonderful.”
Following the shooting, Lyric FaceTimed her grandmother for help. Lagway said, via ABC 13. “My baby, she’s a hero.”
