A Former Inmate Claims Mackenzie Shirilla Confessed in Prison & Said ‘Dom Had to Die’

Ohio teen Mackenzie Shirilla was sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison for the murder of boyfriend Dominic Russo and their friend, Davion Flanagan. It was a wild case for locals in Ohio, and one that resulted in the teen’s conviction. She was accused of intentionally driving her car into a brick wall at 100 miles per hour and, in 2022, she was sentenced. Although she maintained her innocence at the crime being an accident or being caused due to reasons she could not recall, Shirilla remains in prison.

However, according to an alleged former inmate where Shirilla is being held at the Ohio Reformatory for Women, Shirilla admitted to the crimes. Per Daily Mail, the inmate spilled some serious tea when it comes to how Shirilla acts behind bars and what she has allegedly said about the crimes since being convicted.

Mackenzie Shirilla allegedly confessed in prison.

A woman by the name of Anastasia claimed that she was also an inmate at the Ohio Reformatory for Women and that she knew Shirilla personally. Although it’s not totally clear if this alleged former inmate is legitimate, according to Daily Mail, she said that Shirilla allegedly said that “Dom had to die,” in regards to the crash.

In the Netflix documentary about the crime, aptly titled The Crash, there are details of Shirilla and Russo’s relationship, including potential issues they faced as a couple. So for this claim to come out about Shirilla allegedly referencing Russo’s death in this matter, it paints her in a light that is far from the innocent plea she once gave.

“She said the devil made her do it,” Anastasia also said. “She said the devil was pressing on her foot…She wanted to make it sound like she was a little devil girl, and that this is what she intended to do. Like there was a reason that Dom had to die.”

She also claimed that, during her time in prison with Shirilla, she noted that Shirilla made scrapbooks with photos of herself rather than friends and family and that one page of a scrapbook even had a brick wall with the word “BOOM” on it. This was seemingly in reference to the crash that claimed those two lives with Shirilla at the wheel of the car.

She also incurred some violations while in prison.

If you saw Shirilla in any of the documentaries that detail her convicted crimes, you know that the girl loved (and, well, still loves) attention. She was all about that TikTok life before she was sentenced to prison, and so, not being the “it girl” in prison must be pretty difficult for her. Per The New York Post, Shirilla’s violations in prison include changing her prison clothes to appear more revealing. She was written up for “intentionally coming to another unit inappropriately dressed potential exposing herself to staff…[in] a, derogatory or offensive sexual nature.”

According to another report obtained by the outlet, Shirilla was written up for another inmate being caught with their hands down her pants in a sexual nature. Once again, this girl can’t get enough attention, no matter how good or bad it is.

People still don’t believe her side of the story.

It’s really no shock that some people still don’t quite believe Shirilla’s side of things. It doesn’t help that she has multiple documentaries that go into deep detail about the crimes she was convicted of, so, you know, there’s that. But on a Reddit post about Shirilla’s convictions and about the details of the crash, some wrote that they don’t believe her side. Others pointed out her penchant for wanting attention any way she can get it.

“She is going to be there for a while so she is getting comfortable,” a user wrote, in reference to Shirilla’s violations in prison. “She is a person that craves drama and attention so of course this is what she is doing.”

“‘Chaos and attention’ should absolutely be a recognized sexual orientation for some people,” a Redditor added.

Another pointed out, “The judge in the case said she believed MacKenzie Shirilla would probably not get parole on her first hearing [because] Mackenzie would not be able to act right once she was in jail.” Shirilla’s inability to “act right” is probably an understatement at this point.
